First ‘Cartoon Cartoons’ Short ‘A for Angel’ Arrives on YouTube

ERROR: The request could not be satisfied

On Monday, fans of original animation were delivered a digital treat with the arrival of A for Angel, the first short film from the latest evolution of Cartoon Network Studios’ Cartoon Cartoons program to make its YouTube debut. The 2D short is now available to watch on the Warner Bros. TV channel.

Synopsis: Clementine has never felt like a devil, despite her horns, fangs and pointed tail. Faced with an unexpected opportunity to change her path, she jumps at the chance — but she’ll have to enlist the help (and hindrance) of an equally ill-suited angel.

A for Angel was created by Chime Merra, a TV animation artist, comics creator and illustrator who self describes as “a type of line-and-color-secreting organism (likely mammal).”

The latest phase of CNS’s Cartoon Cartoons was announced in 2021, marking the return of the prolific, dedicated animated shorts program after more than a decade. The initiative’s mission is to innovate the art of animated storytelling, showcase diverse stories, discover new voices and mentor the next generation of animators.

The artist-driven program’s experienced overseers, the Creative Council, includes Pete Browngardt (Looney Tunes Cartoons, Uncle Grandpa), Manny Hernandez (We Baby Bears), Katie Rice (Animaniacs) and Aminder Dhaliwal (Woman World). Additionally, Cartoon Cartoons forged partnerships with organizations such as Black Women Animate and Exceptional Minds to further its mission of elevating diverse, inclusive voices in animation.

While short films from the current Cartoon Cartoons program have been previewed at various film festivals and events like San Diego Comic-Con, A for Angel marks the beginning of their roll-out for audiences everywhere.
