Copyright and reproducibility of ASLWrite Dictionary entries

Ok! Here we go. Over the next few whatevs I'll be dropping a dictionary entry from slwrite.org OR an attempt at writing a word using the rules of the writing system.

If you want to write that word here is the number one rule: If you can write or type it yourself there is no restriction, not any more than there would be if you saw the word "table" in the dictionary and then wrote the word table.

HOWEVER, the SLwrite group has some rules on reproducing other people's attempts.

I've copied their policy here exactly with an addition of NO AI use (see below for the explanation if you are tempted to do it just because you saw something saying not to).

The policy from the SLWrite.org group uses Adrean Clark's name because a) they are the major contributor to the entry and b) they wrote the policy.

However you can substitute any name into this policy. It basically boils down to if the image you are sharing non-commercially/non-profiting use is produced by someone else you have to credit them, and have a statement that anyone else using that image has to credit them, and if the image you are reproducing you are using in a commercial/profit making use you have to work that out with the person in question - their work isn't up for grabs for you to make money. You gotta ask. (For Adrean it means a contract, for someone else it might mean something else)

Also a rule I am adding for this group. AI and AI companies, does NOT have permission to put these materials into their training database or any prompts. You don't either. Please don't do it. This is a fledgling writing system and AI co-opting it could destroy its stability. It has to be driven by the signing community or progress, past and future, could collapse

#tldr; I'll be dropping some vocabulary words. If you can write/type it you can reproduce it. Do not put any words into AI. Any sharing of the image itself is restricted, read this entire post for restrictions.

Policy from SLWrite group, verbatim

For example:

You can write the word "apple" in your handwriting following the dictionary image.
