It's shot with an old compact camera from 2010 in low light conditions, so I hope that explains the potato quality. It's crazy how much better my phone's camera is (and it's not even a fancy expensive phone). Still, I'm going to continue using my old camera, I'm a sucker for old tech.

The big buzz and bigger controversy around Texas during the past several years has been a proposal by a company called Texas Central to build and operate a high-speed rail line between Downtown Dallas and a point in the Houston area, about eight miles from downtown Houston where two highways intersect, a great spot for a parking lot, but not such a great spot for connecting transit to take passengers the “last mile” or more to their final destinations in a place that looks more like Houston.

The reason we stay in school, pursue advanced degrees, merge and acquire competitors is to increase market power. The former two are celebrated by society, the latter two often derided negatively as anticompetitive and made subject to regulatory and judicial punishment.

On Tuesday, the Culture and Tourism and Commerce ministries, along with China State Railway Group Co., issued a guideline action plan to launch trains specifically designed for retiree tourists. A nationwide “silver tourist train” network featuring “diversified tourist routes, a wide range of tourism themes and comprehensive services” will be built by 2027, the document said.

China last year unveiled a plan for a silver economy estimated to be worth 30 trillion yuan ($4.1 trillion) in the next decade, catering to a rapidly-aging population needing tailored services from meal delivery to nursing homes and entertainment options.

In November 2024, the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) awarded the latest round of funding to various transit and rail projects, including $63 million towards development of the Coast Rail Corridor. This corridor will link the existing, successful rail systems in Northern and Southern California by conventional rail, per the state's rail plan.
