Tyler O'Neill brought his Opening Day tradition from the St. Louis Cardinals to the Boston Red Sox to the Baltimore Orioles.
Tyler O’Neill is a total Opening Day cheat code. The former Boston Red Sox outfielder continued a remarkable streak.
The current Baltimore Orioles slugger took the field with an Opening Day home run in five consecutive seasons. He brought that streak to six years Thursday with a three-run blast off Toronto Blue Jays starter Jose Berrios at Rogers Centre.
You can catch O’Neill’s shot here.
The 29-year-old benefited this winter when he joined another American League East team on a three-year, $49.5 million contract with the Orioles.
O’Neill blasted 31 home runs in his lone season with the Red Sox in 2024. He launched a solo shot in the eighth inning of Boston’s Opening Day win on the road against the Seattle Mariners.
Yuki Tsunoda in at Red Bull as Liam Lawson demoted to Racing Bulls
Yuki Tsunoda will race for Red Bull from the Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix onwards, with Liam Lawson returning to Racing Bulls after a tough start to 2025.
Lawson was promoted to the senior team having contested the final six races of last year for Racing Bulls as Daniel Ricciardo's replacement. The Kiwi racer was preferred as Sergio Perez’s replacement despite Tsunoda having completed four seasons with the squad.
Having qualified 18th in the season-opener Australia, Lawson was plum last in Shanghai qualifying for both the sprint race and the grand prix.
He has started both of his grands prix for Red Bull to date from pitlane, with the 23-year-old rookie crashing out in tricky conditions in Melbourne and finishing 12th in China, benefitting from other cars having issues as well as a trio of disqualifications further up the field.
Immediately after the race, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner was bombarded with questions over whether Tsunoda was being lined up to replace Lawso

Isack Hadjar's tearful exit from the Australian Grand Prix has been labelled "embarrassing" by Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko.
Isack Hadjar's tearful exit from the Australian Grand Prix has been labelled "embarrassing" by Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko.
Hadjar, a rookie for Red Bull's junior team Racing Bulls, crashed out on the formation lap, meaning he did not even start what was supposed to be his Formula 1 debut.
The French driver, 20, was in tears afterwards as he walked through the F1 paddock, where he was consoled by Anthony Hamilton, father of Lewis.
Marko, the man who oversees Red Bull's young driver programme, was not impressed at what he saw.
In an interview with ORF, Marko said: "Isack Hadjar did a little bit of crying after his crash. That was a bit embarrassing."
Hadjar's encounter with Anthony Hamilton came shortly after he had posed for a selfie with Lewis Hamilton on the driver parade lap.
'I had to choke back the tears - after a lifetime of near misses, Newcastle United won our first domestic trophy since 1955'
After a lifetime of near misses, and 70 years of hurt since Newcastle United's last domestic trophy, Jeremy Armstrong had to choke back the emotions as the second goal went in
So this is what it feels like. After a lifetime of near misses, and 70 years of hurt since our last domestic trophy, I must admit that I had to choke back the emotions as the second goal went in.
Before this hard earned 2-1 victory over Liverpool, Newcastle United had lost on every visit to Wembley since Jackie Milburn led them to a 3-1 win against Manchester City in the 1955 FA Cup final.
Finally, it was the Toon fans who were there to cheer at the final whistle as Eddie Howe's side celebrated a well deserved victory with the team captain Bruno Guimaraes holding the Carabao Cup aloft.
The Toon's losing streak was enough to test the loyalty of arguably the most devoted football fans in the land. And yet still they kept coming, in their tens of thousands, to see the United of the modern era attempt to write their names into club history.
The Cincinnati Bengals have extended their two wide receivers with historic long-term contracts.
In the last decade, starting pitchers have suffered more injuries and become more disposable. But a three-time Cy Young winner says MLB should up the rules.
MLB has a starting pitching problem. Max Scherzer knows how to fix it: Penalize teams for taking their starter out early. It’s a concept the Toronto Blue Jays pitcher calls “the qualified starter,” and he has upgraded his original suggested requirements. What’s a qualified starter?
“If you go six innings, throw 100 pitches or give up four runs,” Scherzer says. “You achieve any one of these three, you become qualified.”
A team is penalized if it pulls its starter before one of those thresholds is reached, says Scherzer, who last year suggested five innings, 90 pitches and three runs as thresholds. He believes new rules are the only fix.
“Once you’re qualified, alright, okay, the DH gets to be in for the rest of the game,” Scherzer says. “If you’re unqualified, [the DH] has got to come out.
“Okay? If that's not enough to make the analysts upstairs keep the starter in the game, let’s talk about maybe there’s a free substitution. That way you can pinch hit or pinch run for somebody if
The Tar Heels will play in the First Four, despite their poor Quad 1 record
North Carolina is headed to the 2025 NCAA Tournament as a No. 11 seed and part of the First Four in Dayton after narrowly sneaking in following a disappointing season. Gaining admission to the Big Dance should alleviate some of the heartbreak the Tar Heels felt following a heartbreaking loss to Duke in the ACC Tournament semifinals.
The Tar Heels' path to the tournament was finalized Saturday night, even after the loss to Duke. Keith Gill, the vice chair of the NCAA Tournament selection committee, led all discussions about the Tar Heels whenever North Carolina AD Bubba Cunningham, the committee chair, was required to leave the room.
Gill told CBS that UNC began Selection Sunday as the last team in the field. But the Tar Heels needed Memphis to beat UAB in the AAC Tournament title game. The Blazers would have stolen the Tar Heels' bid had they defeated the Tar Heels. Memphis held on for an 84-72 win.

Kupp is taking his talents to Seattle
Cooper Kupp has found his new home in the NFL. The former Los Angeles Rams wide receiver has agreed to terms with the Seattle Seahawks, CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones reports. Kupp is getting a three-year, $45 million deal, according to ESPN.
Kupp, 31, was officially released by the Rams on Wednesday at the start of the new league year, but his departure from Los Angeles was weeks in the making. In early February, Kupp took to social media to announce that the Rams brass informed him that they were going to move on, either via trade or outright release. After being unable to find a trade partner, Kupp was simply let go. His divorce from Los Angeles grew even more apparent/inevitable after the team signed former New York Jets wide receiver Davante Adams in free agency.
