I've been working on getting my home studio working nicely, and I'd like to have a simple system to take the line-level from a preamp and run into an IR before the signal hits my interface. Doesn't need many bells or whistles, but does anyone have any recommendations?
The picture shows how it looks like when I´m planning the structure of a new piece of music. This time it´s Ambient Techno. In the book I explain each step, lay out the “whys and hows”, show alternatives and – first of all - “detect” the characteristics of the musical style, which the pieces are going to be examples of.
If everything develops according to my plans, I´ll be able to publish this e-book on the 30th April.
I´ll keep you informed, here as well as on my website https://dev.rofilm-media.net/.
Cheers and peace!

got a bit into talking about Music Streaming Services last Week over on Mastodon, but those platforms aside today. There's another aspect of Music Production and our modern media world that is super interesting to me. It's the fact that before Streaming and Tutorials became a thing, the practices involved in creating Music at home (wherever that may be: the Bedroom, a desk or a dedicated home studio space) weren't really something you would share. You could just spend your days at home producing Music and few people were aware of what you are actually doing.
Like, in a sense it's still the same, you kinda are on your own, just work from home and all the actions involved aren't obvious to people outside that space, unless you maybe collab with a friend or invite someone to add Vocals etc.
Since Music Production Tutorials became a thing, or people went on to even stream music production, all that changed. So, concerning oneself with Music Production Tutorials or Streams are actual
Lemmy Communities and Threads Collection: Linux Audio & (FOSS) Music Production on Linux
Hi!
I hope it's allright to post this here as it's not just about Linux Audio, so please let me know if I should move this elsewhere.
Well, I guess we are all in the same boat when it comes to trying to grow communities here on Lemmy so we can provide information on certain topics here as well (and making the platform more attractive for others in the long run).
There are a bunch of Questions concerning Linux Audio / Music Production scattered across many communities and instances - which is great for decentralisation reasons, but also makes everything a bit difficult to find. So, I thought I'd collect some threads and communities that might be interesting for a start to help others figuring things out in the future.
When I joined Lemmy, I struggled a lot with search on here, and as I looked for anything concerning t
So, the next week(s), I thought about diving a bit into the tech side of things for my thesis. The plan is to write a few paragraphs about the layers of technology involved in the whole process of making music using DAWs, to get a better understanding of where possible issues might be.
I'm not sure if I will make these Discussions a weekly thing, but I will add more topics to discuss in the Months to come, so if you are interested, I'm happy for people to join! Therefore, for this week (or if you stumble across this later) I'm curious to hear about your setup for Music Production! Feel free to share your thoughts below.
As an example, a few things that came to mind were the following topics:
... I thought about creating a seperate community to post this (and any future ones) but since the last contribution on here is already a while back, I'll just go with it for now...
The next paragraphs will be a somewhat lengthy Introduction explaining why I'm here and what I'm doing here now :)
I'm a Musicology student from Vienna, Austria and usually research topics such as Electronic Music and technology in music as well as surrounding culture and practices. However, over time, I became interested in Media Studies as well, primarily investigating Social Media and Streaming Services .
With thisresearch accountI will now begin my journey doing Hybrid Fieldwork on the Fediverse for my MA Thesis.
Planned as an (auto-)ethnographic research project, I will write about

Inspired by Koan Sound I wanted to record some double bass and get creative with it. Fortunately, I have a very old and kind of broken double bass at home. However, I have no idea how to play it properly and decided instead of trying to play it how it is supposed to be played, record a bunch of sounds & noises (I apologized to the double bass afterwards) and try to arrange them into something afterwards. This is the result. It's not perfect but I am fairly happy with it. :)
What I took away from this project: Starting with a few samples can really spark creativity for me. I would have never come up with this on a blank canvas. Listening to the double bass recordings I noticed variations in volume/articulation/... which gave me ideas where to place percussion and other accents. Then the track built itself from there.
Anyone have tips on digital additive synthesis? I'm looking to define a curve for the overtone series to follow and generate and combine sign waves from that. Looks like there is a way in Python?
Anyone have thoughts or experience with generating sounds in Python? Are there any artifacts I should watch out for? Is there an easier way to generate tones from equations for their overtone series? Thanks!

I know there's a lot of distribution services to choose from, but if you spend a few days or a week googling and/or searching u-tube for the best one, I suspect you'll conclude that Distrokid (DK) is the most popular distributor for mid-to-nobody-level artists like me.
I didn't start with DK. I went with CDBaby for my first album because the pay-once-and-you're-done model really appealed to me. Just google "CDBaby", and you'll see in the first result that they are advertising "No recurring fees" because they know musicians don't want to have to continue paying distributors for distribution that has already occurred.
So, I logged into CDBaby in order to start entering all the data that would support album #2. However, things weren't the same as they were with album #1. CDBaby, like every successful company wanting to increase earnings, had added to its offerings as well as its conditions. I get it; you're doing well, and you want to do
