So since this isn't reddit and you're all intelligent I'm going to be direct with this. Do you know about books like The Great Gatsby being banned in schools because it points out how awful aristocrats are? It's the same situation in a videogame called Zenless Zone Zero.

In the first half of a story (1.6) they include the struggles of the lower class and a Robin Hood named Hugo that is willing to do anything for them and get revenge against the higher class that both raised and abused him (Moral Grey character). It's not an edgy or silly story, they literally have a mother die so that her child can get support money she herself can't provide.

In the other half (1.7, the half we're protesting) all of these plot details are forgotten about. The classes of society are barely brought up, the story length is much shorter compared to before, scenes don't make sense, random elements are thrown in, and Hugo is bound and locked in

Hey, just wondering if there'd be any interest in midwest.social hosting additional frontends. I'm thinking of Tesseract in particular, since it's got support for embedding loops, but there's a number of other good frontends. Is that something that would be possible, or is that too much?

This is coming from trying to upload an image and hitting a lot of errors with pict-rs being unresponsive. It would be nice to have a page to look at and know if I shouldn't bother trying to upload stuff atm.

I'm sure plenty of you are pretty upset about the election results, and that's OK. You're allowed to grieve. Fascism blows. But don't wallow in depression for days on end. In the end the only thing that we really have is each other, and let me tell you, being sad really sucks when you don't have anyone else who gets it like you do. So...

Go. Make. Some. Friends.

Build your community. One you feel safe and accepted in. Find people you can count on (and who can count on you) when things get rough.

I say this as someone who had almost nobody but some family (who still didn't 'get' it) in 2020 when things really sucked as well.

Find friends who are into helping others out. Seek out mutual aid groups (Food Not Bombs as an example) and/or people who would want to do that kind of work. The founder of my FNB chapter literally started out with a grocery cart of produce on a street corner with some friends handing it out.

I've created a few new communities to post comics to daily, and I'm starting to hit rate limits pretty consistently now when uploading images. Would it be possible to increase those?

... and I'm getting notifications about replies I saw a week ago.

This is something that I couldn't find an obvious setting for, but someone pointed out that the descriptions are different on different instances.

This post has a German (?) description on midwest.social, but on programming.dev it's in English.

In my settings:

• Interface language is Browser Default.
• Languages has Undetermined and English selected

All other descriptions on posts are in English, only youtube seems to be different.

Has anyone else been experiencing performance problems for the last few weeks? About half my requests time out when using Jerboa. The site on desktop is a little better but Lemmy still performs pretty poorly compared to how it has in the past.

Is this an instance issue or an issue with Lemmy itself?
