So there are these two kids in Ohio. One's goth and LGBT+, the other's really into Stevie Nicks' "gypsy" look, so naturally life in Ohio is a living hell for them. This movie's about a road trip they take to go to a club in NYC.
The Fifth Element is a space opera deserving of the name, a deeply humanist work, and a cinematic poem to human paradox delivered through the power of music.

This is a beautifully written and incisive article that I chanced upon this evening. I don't know how we happened on the subject of the film, but my wife wondered aloud if there was a chance that the diva's performance was authentic, meaning voiced by a single person in real time. To my knowledge, there's no way for a human to be polyphonic to the extreme degree of the diva, but I tried to dig up some info on the subject anyway, eventually coming across this lovely piece. I hope you'll find it, as I did, an brief respite from the terrible reality in which we find ourselves. ✌️
I usually open two web browser windows on a laptop side-by-side but you could follow the mastodon commentary on your phone while watching it on TV or something...
you can probably find it on a streaming service? Here are a bunch of free youtube uploads, but they all have slightly different lengths, and I've read that there are various edits out there:
“With premium original content, precise ad-targeting capability, and an AI-powered, innovative engaging viewing experience, TCL’s content service will continue its double-digit growth next year.”
As streaming services delete their own films and DVDs of classics go out of print, some of cinema’s most interesting movies are illegal to watch. Should you do it?

Homicidal is an unusual film, mesmerizing and ridiculous, and probably needs to be seen in the context of its time, and its director, William Castle.
Castle had his biggest success as the maker of low-budget horror movies that usually came with a gimmick to help sell tickets. Mr Sardonicus came with a "punishment poll," wherein the audience voted to determine whether the bad guy lived or died. For The Tingler, Castle had a few seats in every theater wired to deliver an electric shock, ensuring screams in the audience.
Homicidal is Castle's response to Psycho, and feels like a sequel, but it ain't bad. Similar set-up as Psycho, similar characters, but it goes in its own direction with a wild twist that seems obvious nowadays, but was doubtless shocking in '61.
There's also a 45-second "fright break," allowing patrons to leave the theater if they were too frightened to see the end of the film

This is one that I haven't watched yet because I want to see it on one sitting, but haven't carved out the time to do so.
Have you ever scanned old negatives or print photographs? Then you’ve probably wondered about the resolution of your scanner, versus the resolution of what you’re actually scanning. Or …

Not really related to film content but to the medium. Thought this was nerdy and interesting.
It is wild to me that a series this low budget, ghoulish, and mean spirited has almost become main stream now. I remember seeing the second one at the drive in and there were families there with kids running around like it was no big deal while some girl was getting skinned alive and disemboweled on the screen.
Lionsgate has released a new clip for its reboot of The Crow , and it looks like the creative team is really trying to capture the tone and vibe of the John Wick franchise. The only difference is The Crow can’t dodge bullets. The new clip is set in an opera house and as a security team is go
