  • Thanks, I'll give it a try

  • can't stand them cause i hate vertical videos. at first they were restricted to vine, then tiktok... then they broke containment and every video service out there wanted to stuff them in their app whether people asked for them or not.

  • a possible pro-tip/what i do: organizing your library with categories matching protondb status.

I've categorized every game i own by either borked, bronze, gold, native, platinum, or uncategorized for games not reviewed yet. Any new game I even think about getting i check protondb first. (Though now I try not to buy from steam and just go to DRM-free stores like GOG and Epic through Heroic.)

This way you have a general idea of which games might give you trouble when you go to try to play them, and how much tinkering you might have to get into.

You can also then target just uncategorized games if you wanna contribute to protondb with your own experiences and observations.

  • I was able to just install F-droid and from there get Obtainium to import my usual apps, including Librera which I prefer over KoReader. No jailbreak necessary.

However... I do eventually wanna jailbreak it and get Amazon's presence off there entirely if I can. Thanks for the references, for when I get there.

Just letting the more non-techy people know that you can get FOSS apps like KoReader without having to go all the way, so to speak.

  • Piped.video is an option directly in the browser. Or Invidious.

On mobile (android) I've seen NewPipe as an option

  • I have not, I'll check it out, thanks

  • Intuition Pumps And Other Tools for Thinking by Daniel C. Dennett is a decent introduction.

  • Not everything done so far has been legal and there are multiple ongoing cases suing Trump's actions. Book bans, healthcare, and anti-trans legislation are the first that come to mind. People and organizations (e.g. ACLU) in positions of power are trying to stand up for the common person where they can. If I had more money I'd donate to them.

  • prescriptivism is wrong, actually. descriptivism FTW.

  • it uses activitypub, but after the drama with cofounder mullenweg it's basically another asshole-controlled platform i would avoid

  • unfortunately this is not free on GOG right now, just 75% off. I see this a UK community though so maybe it is free, but only in UK?

  • recorded ebaumsworld videos reuploaded to youtube

  • I'm so hungry...

  • I've also seen people turning to Mastodon for fundraising. Kinda wish the headline would say "social media" in general instead of just insta and tiktok but the point gets across. Shit is fucked.

  • headphone jacks in phones

  • I agree with the under-16 social media ban, but figuring out how and who implements is definitely going to be the hard part. Ideally it would be parents first, but that's been the status quo up to now and it hasn't worked. And as someone who has been "18+" online since I was 10... raising the age limit on the services themselves is only going to work to a certain extent. I'm very curious to see how this plays out.
