  • It's so good. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but I love how the story is told based on observations rather than exposition through dialogues. I don't always need to relate to characters and their lives, sometime I just want to know about the weird gravity or atmosphere and stuff. For the longest time people said it could not be made into a movie, but Denis Villeneuve stepped up to the plate and I cannot wait to see what he does with it.

  • I listened to And Then She Vanished by Nick Jones and found it entertaining enough to start the second book in the series right after. It's not really scifi, I mean, time travel could easily be tagged fantasy as well. I don't know if I'll finish the series though. It's missing something that I can't quite put my finger on. Somewhat shallow and the secondary characters are paper thin. Fine reading to pass the time (or spend 12 hours on a train...) but nothing I'll be thinking about once I'm done. I've been struggling to get through the first few chapters of Perdido Street Station for a while, I may give it another go this weekend.

  • Absolutely love the book and read it a few times already. It's fast paced and engaging. I enjoy the sciency parts as much as the relationship building between the two characters. It has a very straightforward narrative and does not try to be more than it is. It's nothing deep, but straight up good entertainment. I went in expecting as much so I was not disappointed.

  • That's fucking terrifying!

  • Renting is basically the only way to have housing in certain parts of the world. In large cities too. Not everyone that rents is bad at decision making or on the verge of homelessness...

In this specific case, she was able to blow 12k in renos on a rental and has a Roche Bobois couch that's worth at least 10k in the setup she has (she mentions this on her twitter feed). To be fair, she also says she realizes she made a terrible mistake and is taking the criticism in stride, so good for her, lesson learned. All this to say, yes she acted stupidly, regardless of how shitty the landlord seem to be.

I agree with you that the housing system needs to change. That conversation has been going on forever. But the solution is not to have everyone strive to own a house.

  • I agree that the landlord is a shitstain, but that tenant is not the best at decision making either. I can understand spending a couple of hundreds if it makes your life better, but she basically handed over a 12k check to that landlord. I can't see any good reason to do this.

  • Or big wokeness

  • Right? All I was thinking watching it was, I don't want it to end, I want 12 hours more!

  • Oui moi aussi, je suis vraiment curieuse!

  • Plaisir!

  • You should read the article.

  • I didn't miss the point, the point is not about seeing ads or not. Expand your thought process a bit.

  • You sound like you didn't read the article. This not about seeing ads or not, it's about large corporations allowing and making profits off advertising criminal activities.

  • And John Mahoney's no longer with us. Over all there is nothing of note, nothing exciting in this reboot. Hard pass for me as well.

  • I do the same! And you know, I think this is a hobby by itself. It's also very useful when talking with strangers if they tell you they practice one of the hobbies you've binged on. You can ask them more pointed, interesting questions and it makes for great conversations!
