I'm in Portland, Oregon on the West Coast and we have people protesting every day here. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same in most big cities. I even see protests in suburbs and smaller towns. There was a massive turnout for the "no kings" protest back in October, and there's another one coming up in March. People are protesting.
Our current national government isn't very receptive to protests because they are essentially authoritarian and don't have any shame or respect for the people. They're still worth doing to sure our anger and resistance to the current government, but I don't expect them to bring about real change.
We need Democrats to win a damn election, preferably those with a spine who understand that incremental change isn't good enough. It wasn't enough before, and especially isn't now that Trump and the Republicans have effectively destroyed and dismantled our institutions.
The only thing that will change the current situation is democracy or revolution.

From what I understand, most of Krita's development budget comes from income on Steam, with fund.krita.org being a smaller slice. Krita would effectively be in maintenance mode if they didn't have money to pay regular developers and maintainers.
You can still just get it for free on the website.
