    i literally want a framework laptop, but selling it to people as a good way to save money isn’t really viable in my opinion

  • frankly the shiny thing desire of new iphones has worn off on most people in my impression. most people i know buying an iphone end up choosing a 14 or 15, and those who don’t are usually taking advantage of carrier offers. an iphone 12 is pretty much indistinguishable from a 15 for most people, and considering that 16 sales were lower than expected, it doesn’t look this those changes to the look are really driving sales either. the 400ish dollar difference between a 16 and an se is going to be a pretty hard sell for most,if the rumors of its specs are true. even considering the downgraded camera (this will probably be the only real reason people choose the higher end model)

  • you can find decent motorized ones shipped (at least in the usa) on amazon for less than and around 100 dollars, I have a flexispot one because it was on sale and it’s fairly stable (it still very much shaky shaky if you shaky it), but i wouldn’t be loyal to them. it cost like $110

  • Recent iphone models have “easily” removable back glass, and it’s actually the main entrypoint for replacing the battery, lowering costs due lower risk of a broken screen (see new google pixels with screens that almost always break on removal)

    After this, apple also lowered the cost of most repairs, including on models that don’t get the new replaceable back. the non applecare cost for a battery replacement ranges from 80-100 dollars roughly. which is comparable to the cost of a replacement with even a generic battery from a 3rd party shop.

  • just so everyone is aware grapheneos only support's pixels because it is specifically designed for taking advantage of the hardware security features found in google's tensor and titan chips. and thus installing it on another phone would kinda miss the point (and vastly increase the scope of the project)

    google is also basically the best company when it comes to phones for custom roms, as they provide stock images, a simple bootloader unlocking process (that doesn't void your warranty as far as i can tell), and generally the aosp and software support that comes from being the phone of the developer of android.
