  • The "best digital tools" are entirely depending on the use case and requirements.

Since one of the most important requirements is to reduce dependencies to US controlled companies, it follows that Google doesn't provide the "best digital tools", no matter how sophisticated their digital tools are!

  • It was an early showcase for plasma (I think around version 4) that was removed later I. This is an attempt to resurrect it

  • ... aber hier wohnen? Nein danke.

  • Oh nein, wo bin ich den jetzt hin geraten?

  • Due to regulatory restrictions (second factor must be bound to a certified hardware), I think all German banks use integrity checks for devices (SafetyNet/Play Integrity). Those will usually fail on rooted devices (unless you get lucky with magisk) or won't work at all in the first place.

IMHO, german banking apps are really the end boss.

  • It's not organized by a governmental body or even legally binding: it's to bring visibility of the public support for this cause, so I see no reason why you shouldn't participate if you identify as part of the public.

  • "Ehrlichmann" means "honest man" in German, and if that's not a perfect example of an inaptonym I don't know what is

  • 🙂 (I don't know)

  • I'm really excited to test both the beta and (if anything goes wrong) the rollback mechanism of my shiny new nixos 🤗

  • Both provide time-based one-time passwords (totp), so the question is very reasonable.

I'm using aegis because it was the first one I stumbled upon - your question inspired me to check out freeOTP+ , so here are the key differences I found:

    • freeotp hides the totp until you tap the entry
    • aegis shows the totp for all entries all the time
    • aegis refreshes the displayed totp after the timeout
    • freeotp hides the totp after timeout
    • aegis export:
      • an encrypted json file that can only be read by aegis
      • an unencrypted text file that can be imported into other programs
      • shows a warning when exporting unencrypted
    • freeotp export:
      • unencrypted text file that can be imported into other programs
      • unencrypted json file that can be imported into other programs
    • both can ask for biometric unlock (fingerprint) when configured
    • aegis provides biometric unlock only if database is encrypted with a password

All in all they are very similar and both seem great, so you're free to choose the one that's a better fit for you 🤗

I personally like seeing the totp at all times without explicitly tapping in them, so that's why I'll stay with aegis, even if that exposes me to potential shoulder surfers that can as well see all the secrets all the time.

  • Interesting, I attributed it to the data not being completely up-to-date before. And my upvote made the server do some syncing, so more current information is available

  • Wenige können deutsche Großschreibregeln händeln.

  • I feel like conveying the use of this exact word was already achieved by stating that's how the victim felt (because without their saying, it would be impossible to know).

However, I'm not a native speaker, so it's absolutely possible for me to read stuff between the lines that aren't there.
