  • In my experience, Wikipedia has a pervasive cultural of false balance, and it does not surprise me at all that this attitude extends to the founder of the site. Despite their many policies dictating otherwise, in my experience adjudicators often end up weighing authoritative academic sources equally with outdated or lower quality references. Looking through the talk page, it sounds like there was already an extensive RFC for the wording of the lede. Policy was already applied correctly in this case - the system worked as it was supposed to - and it's incredibly inappropriate for Wales to pull rank, reopen discussion when there has been no notable change in circumstance, and advocate for this exact kind of behaviour.

  • Considering you can turn off telemetry and never need to connect it to the internet after activation, I'm assuming that - like how Adobe uses cheap education licenses to on-ramp people onto their platform - this is largely intended to drive professionals towards Canva and their various other products. They take a loss on this product to become the de-facto standard image/vector/publishing application.

  • Still no Linux support. As someone who purchased the Affinity Suite, I'm not sure I like this shift in model. If they keep to just fencing off AI in premium and keep investing in the whole app, fine, but I don't have my hopes up.

  • The first thing I'll say is this: it's worth it. If you want HRT, it's worth the awkwardness. Besides that for me personally, there were a couple notable things. For a couple years at the start of my transition, I had essentially no libedo (having previously had a high one) because my testosterone levels dropped too low. Mine was below detectable levels, whereas about 0.8-0.9 was a more reasonable target for me. That is to say, watch out for low energy and libedo, women need testosterone too.

    Aside from that, I wouldn't say I've had to "relearn" anything, but it has changed my relationship with my body. I like my body more than ever, and certain areas are more sensitive to stimulation than they were before. It's great, I have whole new areas of my body I can enjoy in bed. On the other hand, as the dysphoria around the rest of my body has improved, my dysphoria around genitals has become more pronounced. It's manageable, it's something I had to learn to navigate and communicate to partners. HRT also commonly causes ED, but that's nothing some Viagra can't fix.

    It also didn't change my interests (although they continued to develop), but it did change the quality of my attraction. Before it was aggressive when I was turned on, now it has a more slow burning desire to it. I want a build up and some foreplay leading in to it. It's not a change in interest or skill, but you could call it a shift if you like.

    Also I look way hotter as a woman than I ever did as a man, so jot that down.

  • I personally like it. I wish it were a little more compact, but it seems to be nearly feature parable with the old one and looks a little more up to date. This seems to be a step up in accessibility, both in terms of screen reader compatibility and behaving more in line with what an average user would expect. They've apparently even gone the extra mile to ensure existing bookmarks keep working.

    Having been behind a couple of these modernization efforts, no one ever likes them. People complain every time but the user testing doesn't lie. Unfortunately redesigns are necessary as technology and user expectations change and considering the fact that the old website didn't play well on mobile and was well over 10 years old (15 if you're counting from the last major redesign) I'd say this one was pretty due. The fact this redesign even kept nearly every feature and option (as far as I can tell), rolled out fairly smoothly, and hasn't gone too overboard with minimalism/lack of character, I'm willing to call the redesign good.

  • I've experienced both sides, and there is definitely a different quality to the attraction and horny-ness. It's hard to put my finger on or describe in a way that isn't a cliche like "aggressive" and "raw". It's less romantic? It fills your mind a little, it's impulsive, it doesn't have the same yearning. At least for me.

    For what it's worth I prefer my attraction and sex now as a woman. Not to act as an internet doctor, but I definitely felt a bit like you when my testosterone was too low. All women have testosterone and having the wrong amount can affect sexual desire - it might be worth having yours checked.

  • I don't know how it works in NY, but where I am, for charges like "hate crime" it would be the police. You would report some initial incident and the cops would decide whether to press charges and what charges to press (from experience with my brother)

  • I'm personally of the belief that you are largely the sum of your experiences, so yeah a total loss of memories would mean I am by some definition "dead". That said, you could easily argue by that same logic that the "me" of a year, month, or even minute ago is also "dead", since she lacks the experiences that makes me who I am now. I don't even dispute that that much tbh.

  • Fair enough. I might be a little hesitant to date someone really early in their transition, just because I would need to seriously consider whether I was able to take on the somewhat implied responsibility that comes with that to guide them through such a scary and vulnerable period.

    Beyond that I'm functionally t4t, it's just really nice to date someone who gets you, and all the baggage that entails, and with whom you already have such a strong shared connection.
