  • You mean the spread of the communities you are subscribed to? If so: probably yes, but not an easy one as you have to have access to the data (or more easily: the database)

  • Who or what is/was Gab? 😅

  • My guess is that they just needed to have their own community for a lot of stuff because so many instances are defederated from them. Though I am not sure...

  • I only know it because it is often mentioned when talking about trolling

  • And here the diagram by community subscriber count:

  • The 403 was the planned response when you tried to DM any remote user, because federation of message was just not implemented. With v1.7.0 we implemented it and you will not get a 403 anymore

  • That is right. When you do not explicitly tag a magazine from mastodon (or a hashtag that is matched to a magazine) then the post ends up in the random mag

  • I don't understand your added information about the mastodon post...

  • That is a very good point 🤔 I just checked the code. Your "subscribed" feed does include the users you follow as well, not just the magazines

  • The microblog side works the same as mastodon: following people. You cannot follow random from other instances, because it would creates way too much traffic on larger instances. Imho there should be no random magazine. It only exists for things that cannot be assigned a magazine, because it is not possible to post something without a magazine. We inherited that from kbin

  • +1 for neo launcher

  • Please have a look at the smaller mbin instances as well. It is not good to have one massive server and a lot of tiny ones. Kbin.social is the best example of it, the second best is lemmy.world which just has issues because of its size...

  • That is an annoyance of mastodon. AP is not to blame in this case. Mastodon could just treat boosts by group actors differently, but they don't

  • What is pretty much obvious from our debate here is that the meaning of a "woke" is depending on the person you ask. So maybe we should just not use that term when we want to criticize something, because nobody knows what exactly is meant by it.

But just FYI I have no idea which country you're from or who the people are you're referring to

  • Ok then. I have no knowledge in that regard, so I won't disagree 😅 In my ears "fascist" is usually including nazis (I am from Germany, so for me these 2 words have a "special bond" so to speak)

  • I think we should not go down that rabbit hole. In the war between Israel and Gaza both sides did and do horrible things. Deciding which of the two sides is more evil is just not helping anybody.

  • Sounds to me like it is more about the people aggressively proclaiming "we good everyone else evil" and not so much about the actual people that are being called woke by the likes of trump and other right wing extremists... The people who actually think of themselves as woke are usually not in the extreme spectrum you are referring to.

I would think of myself as "woke" and I very much agree with your statement:

I can definitely live with different opinions where opinions are reasonable (i don't accept "opinions" that are just antisemitism or LGBT hate and similar things, actual racism and sexism just aren't opinions)

  • I guess we are running in different circles (which is likely, cause we probably don't live in the same country :D ). I do not perceive it this way. The black and white thinking is a big problem social media is not helping with (and I don't accuse you of it, its just a fact)

  • So what? I don't get why "being woke" would be a negative thing
