Doom (2016) now DRM free on GOG

Doom (2016) just launched on GOG, and it's on offer. I purchased straight away as I really enjoyed this one. Wasn't expecting to see more Bethesda games on GOG after Microsoft purchases Zenimax.

  • Interesting. Only Fedora seems to be available in Norway.

I'm still 2 years away from a new work laptop (my current one is doing just fine anyway), but when the time comes, I might go for this. Was thinking about going ThinkPad+Linux anyway.

  • I've owned a Z Fold 5 for a little over a year. I'm a developer and often read dev articles, todos, code on a git repo and so on while traveling by buss/train. I find a regular screen size isn't wide enough for reading code, but the z fold 5 unfolded is perfect. I don't want to have to carry a tablet, and I definitely don't want to pull my laptop out just for reading. I definitely won't be going back to a non-foldable.

The inner screen definitely isn't as fragile as you make it out to be. Can't see any scratches on mine. It's way more of a fingerprint magnet than my outer screen, but I can't see that when the screens on, and the rest of the time it's closed and hidden anyway, so why would I care?

  • Proton. They have a mail aliases feature where you can create temporary email addresses which forward to your account. Then, if you start getting junk you didn't ask for, or have trouble unsubscribing, you just delete the alias.

  • I feel that would grab our European balls more than theirs. Practically everyone is heavily invested in AWS, Azure or GCP with few actual European alternatives, and migration to a new provider being a massive undertaking for a lot of those projects.

  • Wonder how long a train journey would take between the two if there was a bridge between Russia and US.

Still remember being a kid and studying a globe for the first time. My brain melted seeing Russia and US were so close to each other. God I was stupid.

Things you wish you know when starting out.

I've had a ROG Azoth (don't judge) keyboard for about a year now. Been using it for both programming and gaming, and I really like it, but there are a few issues (software being the obvious one). So I've decided it's time to put together my own keyboard. I started watching some YouTube and yeah.... I'm out of my depth here.

So I was wondering if maybe people could share things they wish they knew when starting out so I don't mess up to badly.

I've already found this switch tester which I figured would give me a general idea of what kind of switches might be for me. Other than that, I'm not really sure how to proceed 😅.

I'm not interesting in doing any soldering.

Bug: Very slow scrolling on long post with several images

Whenever I try and read long posts with several images, scrolling down becomes extremely sluggish. I've attached a link to one such post. Once I reach the replies to the post, scrolling becomes responsive again.

    This is on Android.

GOG seems to be considering paid membership option

Just did a GOG survey that focused on the idea of a paid membership option on GOG. Seems they're determining what people would be willing to pay extra for. Some of the options were

    • a tool for backing up offline installers
    • ability to install previous versions of a game
    • extra insight into the preservation work they're doing.
    • voting rights on games to bring into the preservation program.

And others that I can't remember.
