  • Not to defend the Democrats or Biden for their inaction, but it would have taken some Republican support to pass a law to protect abortion. The last time the Democrats could have enshrined abortion without help from Republicans was under Obama when they held the house and senate majorities. If Biden did it via executive order, Trump would be able to undo it immediately.

  • If you want to tinker with it (probably quite a bit until you get it nicely tuned), the Ender 3 pro for $75 is a good deal. I've got one, and with some minor upgrades (raspberry pi running Klipper+Mainsail and a bed leveling sensor) it's been great. I saw you mentioned using Linux and tinkering with that, so you'd probably be able to get things working well.

    After you've got a bit of experience, I definitely recommend connecting it to a Pi or other computer to run some kind of web interface for printing, it's much nicer than messing with an SD card every time. Klipper (firmware alternative!) isn't too hard to set up (I'm using Mainsail as the UI) and it's been great. Before that I had Octoprint with the stock firmware which was super easy to set up but more limited.

    If you want to just plug it in and have it work perfectly right away, I've heard Bambu labs is best for that, but they're much more walled garden than other brands.

  • Good luck! I struggled immensely with getting it to work in an unprivileged container, especially the bind mounts and their permissions for my media file shares. I ended up giving up and running Jellyfin in a privileged container after a few days of fighting with it.

  • If you've got a docker host, nginx proxy manager is super simple. Aside from a super basic docker compose file, the rest of the config can be done via the web gui.

    If you're on proxmox, there's a helper script for creating an nginx proxy manager lxc, and the rest can be done via the web gui as well.

  • I believe Teslas specifically are also expensive to insure, there's a reason Tesla offers their own insurance. So if they're just being lumped into EV vs ICE, instead of breaking it down further, that would explain some of it as well.

  • I just got a Chevy Bolt. It's not especially expensive to insure. I was paying $65 per month for super basic liability coverage on my old Honda. The Bolt has collision, comprehensive, and loan payoff coverage, and it's about $100 per month. I don't think that's particularly high considering considering the amount of coverage I added.

  • One side wants to kill us, and now the other side is shifting to agree with them on trans people existing being a problem. I don't know why you think it'll end with sports. If they're successful at banning trans people from sports, next comes bathroom, employment protections, housing protections, and so on. We can't just brush these things off, or they'll continue to sprint towards right wing ideology to pursue the mythical "centrist" voters.

  • It depends, some states in the USA do have safety inspections, but most don't. I can't speak for any of the other north American countries though.
