Well the mechanism is American military occupation and attempt at submission. Their rules / laws don't really matter much to us. But per their laws their Congress needs to accept our admission as a state with a simple majority vote, and then the president needs to sign off on it. The only way us applying happens is if they are able to install a puppet federal government here, and even then if that all succeeds they need to prepare for an extended insurgency.
That's why they're so interested in making Canada part of the US. His mom is Canadian. If Canada becomes part of the US he becomes a natural born US citizen and becomes eligible to run for president. And this is one of many reasons we cannot allow ourselves to become part of the US.

In Ontario I've generally heard and used "Québécois" and don't really hear Quebecers often. Weird that the Montréal CityNews outlet is using Quebecers of all places.
In my mind Québécois is a sign of respect, while Quebecers is dismissive, and I can't explain why I think that way.

Convert WEBP to JPEG when sharing?
(This is my first post sent from Sync, so hopefully I don't mess this up too badly...)
This might already exist, or might just generally be a stupid idea, but here we go:
I share images from Lemmy / Sync pretty frequently, primarily as direct images to Facebook Messenger. However, Messenger doesn't like WEBP files, and quite a few instances seem to be using WEBP instead of JPEG or PNG.
It'd be a time-saver (literally minutes a day!) and reduction of friction if there was an option to convert WEBP to JPEG on-the-fly when sharing. Right now I have to check the image format, and if it's a WEBP I need to download and edit / re-save before sharing.
I was going to say this would be a nice value-add for Ultra, but I'm already subscribed 🤷🏻♂️
