  • Wow, this actually sounds like a good idea. We all miss "classic" tactical fps games like the old rainbow six, and this feels like it's at least an inspired choice.

Hopefully they look at games like valkyria chronicles as further influence.

  • The term "unalive" is so cringey yet dystopian that I don't know whether to feel embarrassed or concerned when I hear it.

  • What will happen is that politicians will see this as another reason to push for everyone having their ID associated with their Internet traffic.

You're right. Which is exactly why companies should be exhibiting better behaviour and self regulate before they make the internet infinitely worse off for everyone.

  • The idea of remaking CS 1.6 in Source is completely backwards to me.

CS 1.6 is kind of liked for the way it "looks" as it is today, most of us who prefer 1.6 would rather they polish up the original game instead of making a sourcified version (arguably uglier) that loses most of the charm the original game had.

I think Valve's answer to this should be to simply make CS 1.6's game code open source and allow community members to help fix the very legitimate issues the game currently has ATM (server listing spam, "fake" users in server listings, etc.)

  • As long as there's centralization and data brokering, there will always be a capitalization. It's basically the only logical path forward for a service that isn't decentralized or running as a charity.

  • The windows kernel isn't all that great, particularly in the realm of memory security or scheduling.

You know, to each their own. Question is really whether windows maintaining a closed source kernel even makes sense from a maintenance burden perspective when it really doesn't give them much money in return. (Most of their money in 2025 comes from cloud services, not operating systems)

Secure Connection issues with Tailscale Exit Nodes?

I can't for the life of me figure this out:

I want to use tailscale on my home server as an exit node, but cannot seem to get it to do secure connections properly. I have Nginx Proxy Manager running on the same home server and I wonder if that's causing problems with the HTTPs encryption verification.

Has anyone had similar issues to this? I've tried messing with DNS resolution settings by overriding it to use the server's pihole setup as the DNS provider, but this hasn't helped either. I'm running out of ideas on ways I can try to solve this.

Why are multiple bluray rips of ZZ seemingly missing the op/ed?

I'm trying to find a version of this show on the internet that has the opening and ending in tact, but why does there seem to be a lot of versions of this show online that are completely missing the opening that's featured on the bluray.

For the first few episodes, I was thinking this was a stylistic decision of the original show, but by episode 5 I became very confused by why it's like this and who would think to do this.

What gives here? Did a fan manually remove the opening when they did the subtitles? Are these tips from the GundamInfo free offers? It's a complete mystery to me.

hexbear.net comically loses its domain name

  • Probably. In all honestly, if you are a hexbear user, I'd be keeping a careful eye on who owns the domain when it magically pops back up.

  • Yikes

  • Anyone else get censored and banned at [email protected] for simply voicing a opposing opinion?

  • It is sad that they don't at least have the courage to be honest about their stance: they legitimately thought that trump was better than harris for Gaza and now they have egg on their face. To which I say, enjoy the leopards -- they have a thing for egged faces.

  • This is nearly the plot to Ghost in the Shell 2 Innocence. Nearly the keyword, they might get there eventually.

  • The best path forward is that developers make their linux drivers before they release their hardware to the market. You know, like what they do for windows.

There's no silver bullet here. You have to wait for someone to reverse engineer the drivers if the developers of the hardware don't care enough to supply even basic linux driver support. Either that or linux becomes so popular that it becomes senseless to ignore it (let's be real though, MacOS is popular enough for this to be true and yet there's still new hardware made that ignores that platform too.)

  • If there are any germans out there reading this, it's not to late to enact strong policy. America failed to do so and I fear the repercussions of not taking the threat seriously have only just begun.

Any way to browse visible content from a specific server?

Is there a way to type in a server name and view any visible (to the user, on their instance) feeds or communities in isolation?

Let's say I'm curious to know what the top content available from lemmy.world is for a given day from my instance, lemmy.zip. Searching seems like the right solution, but unfortunately it doesn't present the data the way i expect (not only posts from that instance) and there doesn't seem to be a way to sort by either activity or recency of a given post.

It would be nice if the user could set up feeds akin to local that target any posts visible to the user from an instance of their choice. I'm hedging on the side that this behavior might already exist in some form, but if not feel free to edit the title to feature request.

  • I don't actually see the fediverse as being any more extreme than any other corner of the internet.

  • Porn bots are a sign that business is catching onto the fediverse. Let's pray they're kind to us.

  • I mean, my issue is that most buttons on my huion are still non bindable, and some graphical interfaces cannot be interacted with in mouse mode and only register as touch. Lastly, occasionally programs completely ignore pen sensitivity, such as blender.

This experience was when I was last on gnome. I've been on budgie for a while as a result of needing a tablet for my hobbies.

  • The lack of proper tablet support in wayland prevents me from being excited for this. I wish there was more news on that front.

  • So you're telling me that I should just add the word trans to my code a shit ton to opt my code out of AI training?

How do services like Mastohost work on a fundamental level?

This is all basically hypothetical, but it's something I want a better idea about to improve my concept of networking, service providing, and etc. Additionally, I think services like Mastohost are healthy for the growth of the fediverse as it eases concerns for business use, enterprise use or even broader "community" use. I think it will be important for the future of a federated internet that many of these types of services exist.

Let's get the obvious out of the way: You'd probably need a lot of hardware to achieve this type of service. We're talking about either having a micro datacenter or renting a datacenter from someone else. You're probably not going to get away with doing this on a bog-standard VPS regardless of how much storage you buy (though, if I'm wrong, feel free to correct me.)

I understand how virtualization via proxmox works (kind of, on a surface level) and I imagine that it would work similarly to that but with a preconfigured docker image

If you already know Docker CLI, is there a reason to use Portainer?

I often see people mention the Portainer project and how it's useful, but I never hear any reason to use it other than as a more user friendly front end to service management.

So is there any particular feature or reason to use portainer over docker's CLI? Or is it simply a method of convenience?

This isn't only strictly for self hosting, but I figure people here would know better.
