I see what you mean. When I said "growing as individuals" I meant it moreso as "learning about ones self", i.e.: Kirk is forced to face and overcome his own racism, Spock faces his own biases when he is let down by the betrayal, etc. But yes if we're talking career advancement, then you're right. They're all basically facing retirement except Sulu and Chekov, really.
Personally speaking that doesn't affect the story at all for me, I think it's up there with TWOK as the best Trek film for it's Soviet Union "end of history" allegories.
Honestly? I have to assume not. I think they watch YouTube ""reviews"" of the show instead. At best, I'm sure some of them have it on in the background while they scroll rage bait on their phones.
I think that casual attitude makes sense for someone who has been around for hundred’s of years.
I think it makes sense too, but even if she was only in her 60s... who the hell cares? She gets the job done, she has the respect of her crew, again, who the hell cares? The fact that male characters (who aren't 800 years old mind you) are seldom criticized for doing the same thing should tell you all you need to know.
For me Nemesis falls solidly into the "Not a 'good' movie, but something I can put on literally any time and have fun with it."
As you said, the themes, inasmuch as they exist, are clunky. The story is nonsensical. But the performances are good as always, the sets are good as always, and the presentation (sfx/makeup/etc) are solid as always.
Creepy how close this is to my exact experience... I did really enjoy Disco 4+5 however, even though I also thought the whole "jump to the future" idea was a little contrived.
When I first became aware of it, I did not expect this story to become a good case for worker's rights and ensuring everyone has enough rest but here we are.
I agree with you. For better or worse, I have to imagine a lot of people who's job relies on pumping out regular articles use LLMs to get the ball rolling. Which is what appears to have happened here.
Well said. The sidebar says the #1 rule in this community is "be constructive". I think most of us here enjoy a spirited debate with a like minded crewmate, but jumping into someone else's thread to tell them how much you didn't like something because of reasons is... well not constructive.
If you didn't finish it, I highly recommend the last two seasons. I almost gave up on it for the reasons you cite, but the last two are a large tonal shift (positively in my opinion).
Beautiful. Stunning. My jaw is on the floor. It's like a living youtube comment. My entire bingo card is full in one comment.
