  • The ability to solve your own problems.

IMO, critical thinking is the single most important skill a human can learn. Teach a man to fish and all that.

  • Surprised I didn't see this quote yet:

“Ultimately, arguing that you don't care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say.” ― Edward Snowden

  • If a right can be violated without repercussion, you never actually had it to begin with. We're seeing the same up in Canada with the Conservative's use of the not-withstanding clause. Basically, "you have rights until they get in the way of what we're doing".

  • I have a constitutional right to privacy

    Not anymore you don't

  • Why did you type *******? You could just type a made up pass to use as the example, like "hunter2"

  • “If I had taken the GPUs that just came online in Q1 and Q2 in terms of GPUs and allocated them all to Azure, the KPI would have been over 40,” she said.

"If I had bet on black instead of red I would have won"

  • Our current party is currently lead by a former international banker who is now PM. We don't have a "leader". And by all metrics (I'm assuming you're an American from your use of the 'Royal We' in this case, since everything is about America to you) "We" are smarter, and not a few years behind.

Let me use the 'Royal We' from our country. "We" say, fuck you you fucking hoser and get bent. America bends, Canada won't.

  • Good old DVD. You'll adjust quick, it's a big part of its charm.

  • Yep. In my experience the real trick is to find the value in advice, regardless of who/what/why (as I give this advice haha). For example, we're trained to call out hypocrites but really, hypocrisy shouldn't be immediately discounted just because it's hypocrisy. A drug addict can absolutely tell someone they shouldn't do drugs. Hypocritical? Yep. Good advice from someone who really knows? Also yep.

Critical thinking is the single most important skill a human can learn.

  • It's ONT and BC so fingers crossed.

  • "Profits". It's all just Three-card Monte but "legal" since the laws don't apply to the rich.

  • I've started rewatching Forever Knight (1992). I love these syndicated 90's shows and this one has absolutely everything you need to know in the title alone. He's a vampire, so he lives Forever, he was a 13th century Knight, being a vampire he can only come out at Night (pun!) so his life is Forever in Night, and he's now a 20th century cop, so arguably he will Forever be a Knight. This is absolutely a "book you can judge by its cover", it's exactly what you expect it to be, and it's the single greatest show title in the history of syndicated TV.

  • Every attempt since at this material has been utter dogshit.

C'mon, the show was peak 90's syndication TV. Highlander, Xena, Forever Knight, Brisco County, the golden age of flipping through channels and stopping when you see one.

  • I'd argue humanity can't end Capitalism without UBI first though. UBI is a stepping stone necessary to continue down that road. Likewise, we can't just jump into something like Anarchism without going through Socialism first. Humanity's progression has not only slowed, it's being dragged backwards. Unfortunately even if we could make 1 nice big step forward, there's a vocal minority that requires we take 10 or 20 baby steps instead.

  • In Canada alone we have had recent experiences both on the Federal and Provincial level

We've got a new UBI pilot program starting this year! I have no doubt it'll get set up for failure just like last time, but it's fun to think about a world that's not run by sociopaths. Of course, even if it does go well it'll be useless without crippling Capitalism first to prevent companies from just raising prices and funneling the individual UBI money into shareholder pockets.

  • Or maybe I’d open a repair-shop. One that also allows people to do the work themselves with tools and instruction.

I would use the hell out of this. I've been focusing on repairing over buying lately and it's not only cheaper (obviously), but it's really rewarding. Some plumbing, sewing to repair clothes, computer repair, I've come to realise that many things are easier to repair than you'd think and the biggest hurdle is just being shown how. For those of us who learn best by doing and being shown in person (not video) this would be amazing.

  • Others have answered so I'll just add, if you have any old smartphone kicking around odds are you can slap LineageOS on it as an alternative if you can't afford a Pixel for Graphene.

  • Same, completely big-tech-free now and it feels great. I moved to Linux roughly around the same time, I'm curious how your Linux journey is going?

  • I'd be curious to see the overlap of people who both can't afford to buy it outright and also have a room big enough for an 83inch screen. Also,

“At the end of your subscription, you can apply for a free upgrade, keep paying monthly, or return your device,”

So, once you've paid through the subscription you get the option to just keep renting? It's not even rent-to-own?
