  • Fair enough, that's actually one of the biggest draws for me. Everything is boxed in nicely and nothing can really wreck the system. And if it still does, there is the rollback function. But if that doesn't appeal to you, maybe mint? Another out of the box working distro, not specifically tailored to gaming but definitely easy to configure (and to install steam on).

  • Give bazzite a try. Next to no fuss, you just install something and it works 90% of the time. The other 10% you have to try out some different proton versions from the steam options, which takes literally seconds.

  • I'd personally go with the meaning of the word native. Meaning natural to you; from the environment you were born into, the culture you were born into, the language your parents and family speak. So probably Cantonese. But that doesn't mean it has to be your primary language or even something you are good at now that you have moved into a different culture and language.

  • A less specific demographic, which is a little ironic when referring to reddit. But lemmy is even more a subset of a subset of a subset of people than reddit is, and it gets a bit old at times.

Politics everywhere, and most of it is just circlejerking over something trump is doing and everyone agreeing how terrible he / his supporters / his handlers / the broligarchs are. There isn't much discourse to be had when everyone on here already agrees, and I don't mean I miss right wing voices. Just that I don't need to talk about politics with people who think virtually exactly the same as me about these things. And I'm also not an american.

Then there is an annoying flood of trans content, which is great that it has its place here, but for the most part doesn't interest me beyond a general sentiment of support for people to live their life how they wish. I want more diversity in my feed.

Not in necessarily in opinions but in topics

  • The idea isn't really for everyone to give up their militaries, at least in the short to mid term, but to integrate that army with a central command. There are already various integrated divisions and battalions serving with other member's armies, iirc for example the dutch have attached a pioneer battalion to the german forces that essentially operates as one of theirs, pretty sure the Scandinavian countries have done similar things as well.

  • Personally i dont have that issue because to me, by definition, anything I like is what heterosexual men like because I am a heterosexual man. I might not enjoy wearing dresses or so but I am not very hesitant to do whatever the fuck I want because it might be unmanly.

I will grant you though that there is a harmful association being made between being heterosexual, male, and a right winger that is a little alienating to like, all the normal not right wing men.

  • It's also extra fucked that he essentially experimented on what are now small children's lives without any concern that it might severely impact them in unforeseen ways, for the rest of their existence. And all for questionable gain because he apparently didn't really achieve the objective of making them immune to HIV.

  • I dont know the second thing but even defensively, stealth fighters are much more difficult to accurately aim at with sensors and guidance systems and such, and it also helps a ton if the enemy doesn't know how many planes you have and where they are from a strategic point of view. Stealth is simply a modern requirement to not be at a severe disadvantage.

  • If this was prepared properly and with a more sane amount of onion this would be totally fine to me. I like me some raw onions sprinkled over food, adds a little zest. Definitely not a centimeter thick slice tho.

    Change the integrated music widget?

Hey guys, I am somewhat new to android (went straight to grapheneos) and am a bit annoyed with this widget.

It looks good, but the skip buttons are tiny and my gorilla fingers have trouble hitting them reliably. Is there a way to change to a different layout with bigger buttons or even gesture support?

I am aware that most music apps come with a widget for the home screen but I specifically need the one shown on the lock screen and pulldown menu to change.

    Thanks in advance!

How to identify “unavailable" videos on yt?

I hope this is the proper place to ask, though probably only indirectly on topic for this community.

What I am looking for is a way or tool to extract from a YouTube playlist the information which of my saved videos (usually very niche music from about a decade ago) are no longer available in it (so that I might procure them elsewhere).

With google being google, and the condensed information of "x videos are no longer available" that is displayed, I am fairly sure the information isnt gone gone, just hidden from the user.

Is there a way to get at that info?

    Thanks in advance

Looking for an emulator (old nintendo)

So i recently got my first android phone after having been an iphone user for years. So far i am really happy and especially enjoy finding foss alternatives to as many apps as possible.

However i cant seem to find a gameboy emulator, one oft the things i missed on ios all those years. Mostly for gba games, maybe gbc too. Does someone here have a recommendation? All the ones i found on fdroid were incompatible.

Suggestion/bug report: favorites are sorted confusingly

So I recently doomscrolled imaginarystarships, and saved a few posts I liked. When I wanted to revisit those I discovered that saved posts are sorted by when they were originally posted, not when I saved them, causing some of the older images I saved to be very far down the list. This is very annoying to deal with if you (like me) sometimes go on a saving spree regarding a specific topic and would like those saves to be logically grouped together.

    Question about the federation system

I noticed that some instances seem to sort of shadowban users from what I presume is any instance not on a whitelist.

This might sound like it might be regular defederation at first, but I can see or interact with their content just fine from my all feed while anytime I attempt to interact with communities on there in any way literally nothing happens, as if my contribution were invisible.

No replies, up or downvotes, no deletion or ban. Just shouting into the void while everyone around you (from that or other whitelisted instances) is having lively discussion.

Granted there is also the possibility that my contributions were uninteresting but my general experience is that people love to argue, or at least downvote whom they disagree with.

Is this a thing I should be aware of? That some federated instances have unilateral shadowbans in place?
