  • I smoked a little when it was illegal in my state but legal in others. I made brownies. I think the new weed is just “take a hit or two” or even “share a joint with 3-4 people” and it’s fine. I love that my vapes are $30 legally and just last for months. Such a cheap drug now.

    Let’s do a quick exercise without real numbers. Please let me know if I’m wrong because this is what I thought. If I make 150k and am maxed out on my standard deduction, but then I make 250k and there’s no difference on my standard deduction, I’m not getting more standard deduction. If my wife is a stay at home mom and I make $250k, I am getting more standard deduction now, right?

    This is how married taxes work, right? Am I wrong on that? We get different brackets and different rules. I’ve been marred for 7 years and my first year I got all my taxes back because she didn’t work that year. Am I wrong?

    But what you’re saying: a raise for the lower earner does give more money. But by being a big earner marrying a now or low earner, it incentivizes high earners marrying low earners. Or mixed earners. It was devised in the time when women didnt work but we needed more tax benefits for taking care of women.

  • Exactly. It’s to incentivize one person to be a bread winner and one to make less and be a home maker (or something with less hours) so you get the tax benefits. It would be a nice system if expenses weren’t so damn high.

  • I use AI in my job but for script development. I would never have an AI without explicit guardrails or automated and not prompt driven and watched. It’s gotten creative though by using find … exec rm to remove old files, because I allowlisted find *. But it still only can do stuff in the directory it’s open in.

  • As someone who vibe codes for work (and also knows how to program without it) it’s capable of some crazy stuff that I didn’t think of that’s really cool. But I am not implementing user/pass or token authentication or anything like that into my code. It’s mostly UIs and algorithms and “how to do api with python backend” and whatnot. I have premium LLM with work, so it’s doing a lot of stuff, but still. Doing anything security related with an LLM and not reviewing it by hand is dumbfounding.

  • I’d be all over this if three things:

    1. Wasn’t in the UK
    2. in a walkable/transitable city where may of my friends live
    3. I had 8-12 friends to all go in, either ownership (being an LLC for ownership per money put in), or with rent to the owners so they can dip out whenever.

    Owning a huge home with several friends in a city is a dream of mine. And this home has a lot of “big family” areas where it could just work so easily.

  • They said to just get stared. I still get to completely design my entire docker.yml file to my liking but just sets up a skeleton that works for some but you can adjust it. Using yams from the start was great because I adjusted my containers many times and could restart all my containers at once. They still all run as docker and work the exact same as docker, it’s just a nice setup and restart tool.
