I like city building games and puzzles. I like other things as well, but that's not important right now.

My fediverse philosophy is that we should avoid emulating the bad and crude aspects of reddit - don't abuse the downvote feature, don't chase 'karma' and don't overuse the word "porn" in subreddit names.

  • I do. That's why i'm getting pedantic about the term 'sleeping with your balls out. I either sleep with my everything out or my nothing out.

  • Yeah but i interpret the question as "is there anyone mean in the same way and to the same extent as online trolls/cyberbullies."

There are, for instance, people who replicate the methods of cyberbullying in real life. Guess that's why gaslighting is such a popular term now.

  • Was thinking recently, they must be one of the apex predators in britain given that they're one of 3 animals which will actually attack a human

  • Swearing on the bible isn't to prevent you from lying, it's putting the "no more lying from this point onwards" into effect, in other words activating the perjury rule.

They use it in other ceremonies like swearing in the president but they let people use different books for that - maybe they let people use any book for the court too? So even if the bible has no special place in your heart you'll be vowing before whatever god you follow or whatever book is most beloved to you. Unless you lie about that bit, too 😉

It's not smart to lie in court. What's smart is to answer a question in a way we're you're not lying but not giving them the info they want, assuming you or a loved one is the one being prosecuted. After all, they're commonly trying to GET YOU to lie, because they have evidence which would contradict your lie, and this the guilty party becomes more likely to be guilty, in the jury's eyes.

  • I didn't know but I really wouldn't be surprised

  • I wonder if it is possible to hide in some little-known forest, survive there for a long time, at least five years, until I am discovered, or is it better to give up and buy a revolver with a full magazine so as not to miss?

Sure, it is. To facilitate a life like this you might want to:

    • get a job that involves working in the wilderness anyway, e.g arborist, hunter, botanist, zoologist, river steward (engineering or environmental science role)
    • get training on how to protect yourself in the wilderness, e.g filtering water, finding food
    • create your own nature project in the meantime time, like a re-wilded allotment, an apiary, or river remediation. This is good practice but also might be useful if you went through with a wilderness retreat

One of the reasons I chose to study engineering was in the hopes that, if society collapses or I depart into the wilderness, I'd know a thing or two about setting up my own clean running water and structures. A plumber and carpenter would know way more about those things than me, but I still feel like I know the basics now. (Also, potentially I could get a job in river management which means I might become more familiar with wild spots that are good to camp out or live full time at.)

However I think it's better to try and coexist with whatever crazy events are happening in society. You can get the best of both worlds - set up a get-away spot in the wilderness but spend most of your time working and living in civilisation. The thing is, you have so much more freedom and mobility in society - you can mobilise against any threats rather than just run away from them! You can persuade people to your cause.

If you want to resist AI without departing from society, then some ideas are:

    • training in something like law or a creative field (yeah, get fucked all you STEMbros and finance fatcats who said art and English was useless
    • Simply not using it - this is a surprisingly powerful step to making you immune to AI takeover. People who use Chatgpt regularly have their lives ruined.
    • Support local libraries, and art galleries.
    • consumerist based things like not buying the latest phone model, or cars (or at least self driving ones).
  • Neptune more blue

  • I can't even distinguish them from one another if they're not brightly coloured cartoon depictions of the planets... Let's see..

      1. Ve- no, mars. 2. pluto. 3. Mercury
      1. Jupiter 5. Uranus - but 7 looks more Uranus so 5 must be Neptune? 6. That's Earth

      1. Uranus 8. Satrn 9. Venus
  • Dumbest shit i have ever seen published in a newspaper, I think we all know that's saying quite a lot.

  • Yes, people who have completely shaped themselves based on the internet (zoomers)

I think tha's what made early internet nice and new internet bad - early internet is people who are used to politeness and being normal using the internet as a tool ot be more sociable, new internet is people with fried dopamine receptors who are used to porn, gore and bullying and get points for saying shocking things.

  • Hmm spanish or chinese would be most helpful statistically, but French or German would be best for understanding things i want to read + watch.

Also knowing latin or ancient greek is great for showing off.. lots of buildings around here that have latin on themand it hurts me when i don't know 100% what they say.

Russian or Estonian, both of which are because I frequently listen to lots of music t

    Me too!

  • ‘please schedule and attend an appointment’, which seems wild that so many people book a time then don’t show up.

    Yeah that's fucked up.

I'm surprised to hear that america has a shortage of donors because i heard that the UK buys blood from America due to our own shortage of donors.

  • "I explained to him it was a matter of life and death" Nah bro it sounds like you failed to explain properly

  • I think this is because of how we treat them, lol, like they literally

    get jerked off

by humans on a regular basis, lol. From what I've heard.

  • Loved this series, wish they could've taken the concept further or polished it a bit more. It's a bit repetetive but it actually picks up and has progression from season 3 onwards. Then when it ends it feels like it's all over so soon!

  • If it interests you to see an in depth what a zoomer's experience of social media might be:

    • [2015-16] only used YouTube, but a lot, and i was one of those idiots who would get into lomg winded arguments or try to hold conversations in the comments (i was a kid so don't hate)
    • spent a lot of time watching videos on star wars lore and got more into it because the sequels were coming out
    • discovered star wars forums
    • [2016]forums for minecraft servers i was in
    • [2017] big WhatsApp groupchat with school friends
    • also joined discord because 1 friend refused to use whatsapp or something
    • friends start to move to instagram for some reason, begrudgingly join
    • [2018-19] start to use reddit becauss I was fascinated by the in depth heart to heart discussions, eventuslly realised it had an abundance of easy to access NSFW content, which was terrible for me
    • [2020] start to use instagram professionally for art portfolio
    • [~2021] become more openly anti-porn, which is a large reason I'm at odds with reddit
    • [2021] start to use twitter/X. Completely impossible to actually grow there unless you have a cross-platform content strategy (e.g if you make youtube videos and your twitter acct is the same name)
    • long period of no change, delete twitter accounts over and over for privacy reasons.
    • [23-24] have to use facebook for uni societies, property viewing and various other grown-up stuff. Alao only way for relatives to know I exist.
    • [2024/25] start to use Nitter instead whenever I want to see a twitter thing.
    • [2025] delete instagram because it has high tech demands and is inconvenient to use
    • discover piefed because it's advertised as reddit but less ccorrupt. Get permabanned from reddit around the same time.

Other things I've dabbled in: pixelfed, twitch.

Never used: Telegram, Snapchat, BeReal, TikTok, PornHub or similar.

  • Pensioner KILLS a seagull by swinging it into a wall

    The Daily Mail:

  • An entire continent is covered with Eucalyptus trees. They suck the moisture out of the entire surrounding area and use allelopathy to ensure that most of what’s beneath them is just bare red dust. No animal is making use of them——they have virtually no herbivore predator. A niche is empty. Then inevitably, natural selection fills that niche by creating an animal which can eat Eucalyptus leaves. Of course, it takes great sacrifice for it to be able to do so——it certainly can’t expend much energy on costly things. Isn’t it a good thing that a niche is being filled?

Sounds like I have my answer for next week's question of "what's the worst plant on Earth"
