    The Deathly Hallows were a huge asspull. Trying to make an overarching story was a mistake, the story worked best when it was “monster of the week” standard children’s fare. That kind of format can tolerate the “I’m going to introduce something new that should have wider consequences and then forget about it immediately afterwards” problems (Time Turners, Legilimency, polyjuice potions, love potions…)

    in the closet out, and reported being supported overall by their community/peers after coming out out, and reported being unsupported overall by their community/peers after coming out

His sexuality was something that was very “open” to the family, like we all knew about his Megan Fox poster with a hole in it (which she bought for him) and the used tissues in his room were… excessive.   • I watched it with a buddy in college. We had basically a game of showing each other the most fucked up shit we could find - exploitation films like Stalag 69 or a documentary about some danish woman who had a farm were she fucked animals. We both found it ultimately kind of boring compared to the other stuff, even lazy exploitation films which would recycle the same 5 minutes of footage for half of their runtime.

    Your comparison to a strained shit is apt. It’s trying it’s damnedest to offend, but it’s the same vibe as a middle schooler in a hentai hoodie telling dead baby jokes.

  • The description reminds me of the Notebook Trilogy of novels. Also a “how the fuck do we cope with what happened in eastern front world war 2” story. Has a couple scenes that are the only times I’ve ever had to put down a book. (The video game Mother 3 takes some inspiration from these novels - the main characters are named Klaus and Lucas)

  • “See a therapist” is just worthless advice, especially when it’s unsolicited.

    Therapy is not free and getting insurance to cover it can be a nightmare. Waiting lists can be ridiculous. You can live in an area where there’s basically no good therapists - where your options are someone who wont do much other than print off CBT worksheets, or worse, unethical shit like conversion therapy if you are queer.

    Some people have also been severely traumatized by their experiences with therapists and the mental health care system. (“Quit your job to make your abusive husband happy!”)

    Tumblr has been outright allowing public death threats against trans people, describing hope for mass slaughters, and this shit for a while now. They don’t take anything down when reported; they’ll go after random trans people’s accounts though.

    Anyone interested in “TERF Takes” really needs to be paying attention to Tumblr. I am genuinely concerned it is going to radicalize a teenager into killing someone.

    I do think it’s fucked that platforms like Tumblr and Twitter allow this. I’ve seen multiple similar posts which conflate the Weimer Republic’s policies of issuing “transvestite passes” with Nazi policies. The Nazis revoked those passes and used them to hunt and kill trans people.
