Addressing my recent six month ban from HilariousChaos's conservative community.
Yesterday I was banned for six months from HilariousChaos’s conservative community by [email protected] for ‘Trying to create drama.’
This was the original post the mod removed.
I created a post on PTB about the removal of my post which lead to them issuing me a six month ban
When I asked the mod why I was banned for six months without breaking any rules they told me it was because ‘You want drama by whining in other places about our rules. You made your choice, see you in six months.’
I think an important part of moderation i

Community icon/banner suggestions
This community could use an icon and banner! I suggest looking through the artwork available on TheTVDB, as there are some good options there: https://thetvdb.com/series/dark-matter#artwork
In addition to that, I created a few options of my own by basically just cropping Dark Matter wallpapers

How do y'all post clips/animations on Lemmy? Only GIF seems to work.
So I had a clip I wanted to upload to a lemmy comment:
End result, I have to burden the server with a massive, crappy looking GIF after trying a dozen formats. With all due respect, this is worse than some aging service like Reddit that doesn't support new media formats.
For reference, I'm using the web interface. Is this just a format restriction of lemmy.world, or an underlying software support issue?
600 subscriber milestone!!
Let's celebrate any and all progress we make! That's all.

Bot Updates, Related Communities, and Discord
Update time! I'll put the tl;dr up front:
There are two main things that I have recently added our resident bot, @[email protected]:
rikka can now include links in her posts that link out to other fediverse communities that are relevant to the show/movie that the post is about. A recent example is that The Apothecary Diaries episode discussion posts now include a link to [email protected] in the body of the post. Neat! Go forth and spread activity through the
Peoples opinions on the bots going forward?
Alright everyone! Hope everyone is well!
Following on from the post made around 20 days ago I reached out to the namesake bot owners to ask them if they would mind editing its posting parameters to make it so they post links properly to clean up this sub and make the links appear properly. I have received no response regarding this issue either here or other platforms where I have reached out.
So going forward what would you good people that browse and post to the community like to do?
I can either leave the bots posting as they are or bans the bots with a reasoning in the hope that the bot owners will see the reason and reach out and rectify the issue.
I am going to sticky this thread and I'll post two comments, one for each option. That way you can just upvote your preferred option. I won't lock the thread entirely so please feel free to also give your opinion if you'd like.
I'll leave it up for a week or so to give everyone time to see it and vote before taking any action.
Spoiler rule
Does anyone think it would be a good idea to have a rule to prevent race spoilers on this community till 24hrs after a race?
Given the nature of races being in a different part of the world every time, time zones vary greatly and it's not always possible to watch a race "live".
Personality I would like to stay subbed to this community, so I can get f1 news and posts when I browse Lemmy. But if it isn't possible to make a rule like that and I'm likely to get a spoiler I would have to either stop using Lemmy for 24hrs (oh the horror) or unsub from this community.
Just a thought.
Should we consider moving to another instance?
Let me preface this with a few remarks. I love this instance. I'm generally in favour of topic-specific instances, and I would like to extend my gratitude and appreciation to @[email protected] for creating and maintaining diagonlemmy.social.
However, there are a couple of drawbacks to diagonlemmy, and I think it is worth considering whether this community might be better served elsewhere.
This instance has only one admin, and they are not in a position where they can regularly monitor this instance, nor have they recruited any additional admins or even moderators. As an example, it took ~4 months for my local account to be manually approved.
This has not been a major problem so far, but it is risky. As this community grows, we could see a higher frequency of situations where prompt admin/mod action is necessary. We also run the risk of the instance going offline indefinitely with no way to know when (or even if) it might be fixed
This community is currently unmoderated, does anyone want to step in?
For people still looking for a LW alternative, [email protected] is quite active, as it also gets posts from Mastodon and Pixelfed
Meta whistleblower Sarah Wynn-Williams says company targeted teens with advertisements based on their ‘emotional state’
Meta whistleblower Sarah Wynn-Williams, the former director of Global Public Policy for Facebook and author of the recently released tell-all book
It could identify when they were feeling worthless or helpless or like a failure, and [Meta] would take that information and share it with advertisers
the company was letting advertisers know when the teens were depressed so they could be served an ad at the best time. As an example, she suggested that if a teen girl deleted a selfie, advertisers might see that as a good time to sell her a beauty product as she may not be feeling great about her appearance. They also targeted teens with ads for weight loss when young girls had concerns around body confidence
Are we living in a time when The Onion just can't compete with Not The Onion?
I can't believe the image upload issue is caused by a kid who won't clean their room.
From the big announcement post:
Caused by a child process ending without properly cleaning up
Put the child process in time out for their bad behavior. And if it continues to act up, no more cookies!
Lemmy Silver Charity Event
Lemmy.World is running a charity event running for the month of April, and I’ve signed up our community to participate.
Details in this post.
The gist of it is that you comment !LemmySilver
under posts or comments you think deserve attention, and at the end of the month, the users with the most awards will have money donated to a charity in their name.
Let’s spread some positivity in this community, and good luck!
The Mod Here is a Class-A Moron 🤦♀️
Update - Fixed. Thanks @[email protected] for pointing out the wayback machine!
I thought it would be fun to change the community icon and banner for April Fool's Day. But I forgot to save the old icon and banner and can't change them back.
Long story short, if you happen to have the old icon or banner cached or saved, please let me know. Otherwise, we might be having a new icon/banner contest.
Sincerely,
Jenny, Class-A Moron
Moderatie c/theNetherlands

is this community unmoderated?
I noticed the only moderator hasn't been active on Lemmy for 10 months. I'll ping them in the comments.
There is now [email protected], as an alternative to the LW and .ml versions
One thing to note is that this community being on Piefed allows us to use some unique Piefed features, such as only subscribers to the community being able to downvote.
