I got banned from Europe community for posting a article that has an analysis that the admin does not like.

The most funny fact here is the articles that came in the same time.

Zelensky predicts that Putin 'Will Die Soon'

And from the New York Times:

The Secret History of the War in Ukraine: This is the untold story of America’s hidden role in Ukrainian military operations against Russia’s invading armies.

It just shows that Lemmy or Reddit, both have terrible mods and both can silence your voice on command without any reason.

Tackling "Nicole" Spam

So I'm sure some of you have also gotten the spam DMs supposedly from "Nicole, the fediverse chick". She is notorious enough across Lemmy to even have her own community now. I think I've gotten like 6 Nicole DMs. While those may seem amusing on their own, there is the worrying suggestion that they might actually be a deanonymization attack. In light of that possibility, are there any measures the admins here could consider to prevent this kind of attack from happening? Other instances' solutions include for example rehosting external embedded images, filtering out external images from DMs entirely or trying to implement filters for preventing spam DMs from being sent. Especially one of the former two solutions would in my opinion be quite good options to protect the privacy of pawb.social users.

Mod needed for Toki Pona Lesbians community

I found a community for lesbians who speak Toki Pona, but the moderator appears to be banned, similar to the former situation with Lesbians.

Do you think you could find another mod team like how there’s 2 new ones running Lesbians in English?

So, oddly, I can't search the community.

mbin instance looking at lemmy community showing "magazine is not receiving updates"

tl;dr: what does it mean to see these two warning/notice saying "This magazine [community] is from a federated server and may be incomplete." and "This magazine [community] is not receiving updates."

Hello. I've tried to get into lemmy back when reddit did the API restriction and killed access to my favorite Sync for Reddit, and it kind of really didn't stick.

Now I'm trying to get back into the threadiverse and figured I'd try with mbin now since I'm more keen to have an account that's seemed to have good mix of "properly" showing and have access to threads and microblog posts.

But some instances of mbin seem to have the one or two warning/notice on top of the community page.

I've looked at the community both thru two top mbin instance and through the community's local instance and yeah the warning is right. One of the mbin instance aren't synced / updated.

What does it actually mean, and how will it impact my browsing? Thanks.

Arch Linux News: Cleaning up old repositories

Around two years ago, we've merged the [community] repository into [extra] as part of the git migration. In order to not break user setups, we kept these repositories around in an unused and empty state. We're going to clean up these old repositories on 2025-03-01.

On systems where /etc/pacman.conf still references the old [community] repository, pacman -Sy will return an error on trying to sync repository metadata.

The following deprecated repositories will be removed: [community], [community-testing], [testing], [testing-debug], [staging], [staging-debug].

Please make sure to remove all use of the aforementioned repositories from your /etc/pacman.conf (for which a .pacnew was shipped with pacman>=6.0.2-7)!

"." is not a rule

Screenshot shows three comments being removed from [email protected] (this community) by one of 196’s mods with the reason for removal being “.” (literally just a period).

I looked into this and discovered that the comments were just some fairly polite, if snarky, comments in response to the mod themselves. I could not identify a reason for comment removal per the site or community rules, so if there was one, “.” doesn’t cut it.

This is a callout post y’all. Do better. Start putting actual moderation reasons into the modlog for the benefit of you and other mods, otherwise what is the point of a transparent and federated platform?

As of now, it looks like the mod involved is just using their mod powers in a self-serving fashion. I am not making that accusation now, but that’s how it looks.

Please and thank you. Mods here do an excellent job keeping 196 on Lemmy a bear

Iran’s president and foreign minister die in helicopter crash at moment of high tensions in Mideast

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and the country’s foreign minister were found dead Monday hours after their helicopter crashed in fog, leaving the Islamic Republic without two key leaders as extraordinary tensions grip the wider Middle East.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has the final say in the Shiite theocracy, quickly named a little-known vice president as caretaker and insisted the government was in control, but the deaths marked yet another blow to a country beset by pressures at home and abroad.
Iran has offered no cause for the crash nor suggested sabotage brought down the helicopter, which fell in mountainous terrain in a sudden, intense fog.

In Tehran, Iran’s capital, businesses were open and children attended school Monday. However, there was a noticeable presence of both uniformed and plainclothes security forces.
Later in the day, hundreds of mourners crowded into downtown Vali-e-Asr square holding posters of Raisi and waving Palestinian flags. Some men c

COSMIC Tasks

The application is still being actively developed but I wanted to share my experience working on it.

While working with libcosmic, a pre-alpha library, I was pleasantly surprised by the available resources. Unlike many early-stage projects, libcosmic has well-written documentation that clearly explains core concepts and functionalities. Beyond the documentation, the project provides practical examples showcasing common use cases and real applications being actively developed.

But libcosmic's true strength lies in its community, the team at S67 has been incredibly supportive, not only did they answer questions promptly but also actively contribute to the project's growth. This kind of coll

Technical difficulties and where to find Limbus on the threadiverse

Hello everyone, I've been posting in this community/magazine for a while now, but I won't be able to continue. This magazine is currently not moderated and my request to adopt it has been pending for months. On top of that, kbin dot social has not been federating for almost a week now and shows no sign of fast amelioration, which makes this magazine basically not functional.

On account of these two problems, I won't post here anymore. The Limbus content I posted here will instead be integrated to the general Project Moon community at !projectmoon. Don't hesitate to join there! =)

Also if someone ever feels like reviving this magazine, I'm totally cheering for you! I was just a random passerby, you don't need anything special to be the change you want to see =)

This community is dedicated to educational resources for the modern autodidact, as well as discussion on self-teaching methods. We just added Alexandrite to the server, it's an alternative UI for Lemmy created by Sheodox who worked tirelessly to make the necessary changes to we could host it ourselves here. So go to https://a.lemmy.world and have a look!

He continues to update it constantly, you can follow the development on his github page or in his community. If you like what you see and want to support him, why not buy him a coffee? :)

For those who don't have Lemmy World as their home instance and want to use Alexandrite, either ask your instance admins to add it or go to https://alexandrite.app!

Adventure Builders Community - SLRPNK

I'm here to share a fairly famous youtube channel and community from a man I have had some very interesting conversations with over the past 10-15 years. His name is Jamie Mantzel and he basically personifies off-grid living, IMO.

I started a community here on slrpnk.net to clone his Reddit presence because I felt that this was the most philosophically aligned place for this content. The content is automatically cloned over from Reddit (all I had to do was make a request with the Boycott Reddit Bot).

If you've never seen his channel before, you're in for a treat.

Anyway, here's the cloned community: Adventure Builders

or

[email protected] before the bot comes and corrects me!

If anyone wants to help moderate that community, please let me know.
