Important notice to libranet.de and venera.social users: in the next few days there will be optimizations on dB with temporary suspensions of the service

@fediverse

In the next days I need to optimize the large database tables of libranet.de and venera.social. The database has grown to an extent where the server would run out of disk space in the next weeks.

This is a time-consuming and resource-intensive process that can block other database queries. That's why I will switch on maintenance mode beforehand.

I'll start with the large database tables of venera.social. When this is done I'll continue with libranet.de.

@fediverse

Groups are not new to Pixelfed, we have webUI support but the feature wasn't polished enough for use, until now ✨

:pixelfed: Groups will be compatible with #Lemmy, #Mbin, #Smithereen and other projects, and will resemble Facebook Groups in our official app!

Stay tuned, we'll be shipping the updated Groups support in the app and webUI this weekend 🚀

This is a feature already implemented by apps for Lemmy (and for Reddit) or email clients, but for Social apps it represents a unique and innovative feature.

If you want to try the new feature, you can download the apk file directly from github

Lemmy is a kind of forum software in the #Fediverse: You can subscribe to forums (called ‘communities’ in Lemmy), share links and participate in discussions. @Tealk and I have described it in more detail (in German) here.

On the one hand, you can follow [#Lemmy](http

Welcome to Kagi, the paid search engine full of surprises, which today opened an account in the Fediverse!

@fediverse

@kagihq is the very interesting project for a paid search engine, without tracers and with an accuracy in identifying results such as to exclude all Google spam.

Those who believe that #Kagi's costs are too high, should reflect on a small detail: if Google lets all those searches be done "for free", who pays those costs? The answer might seem simple: "advertisers".

Yet this would be an incomplete answer: like saying that rain is caused by clouds!

In reality, those costs are paid by users, by being milked and letting Google extract their "value", a bit like in the human farm in Matrix...

We first heard about Kagi on the @lealternative **[we

So, before beginning my 4 months of parental leave in June, I wrote an article for @heiseonline describing, why one on #Threads should activate federation with the #Fediverse. I did this in anticipation, that this option would become availabla in the EU while I'm gone.

After almost two months, it's still not here. Seems like preparing the article wasn't necessary. Will it come before christmas maybe? 🙄

Twitter keeps decreasing and is already overtaken by Mastodon (thx also to problems with our bot for #X, when it works, X brings more people).
Flipboard and #Facebook are growing again, #Bluesky and #Threads are far behind. But Threads brings already more traffic than Bluesky, although we can't autopost (every link) there.

Federation issues between the sociale.network instance and newsie.social

HI @TheAdmin
I noticed that there are problems between the instance sociale.network and our instance.

When someone on a social network sends me a message I don't receive it and I can't search for messages even using the message handle

We did some tests with @informapirata who also has @pirati 's account and in fact nothing works

It doesn't seem to me that the two instances are mutually blocked or muted

The overarching goal is an experimental system to make ActivityPub federation stuff clearer for devs, sysadmins and advanced users.

The documentation is incomplete and the code is really not OK! But they always say it's better to get stuff out the door for others to look at sooner. Maybe it inspires others to think about the Fediverse/ActivityPub in weird new ways!

OUR Fediverse lives vibrantly in defiance, as a glimmer for hope in a dying world.

Liberating our speech from corporate control is necessary for a healthy revolution.
