Gears of War: Reloaded's Beta Shows Lots Of Promise For Steam Deck
Gears of War: Reloaded's beta gives us a good look at how the game will perform on the Steam Deck when released, and it looks very promising.
The game is Steam Deck Verified ahead of release, but as we know that isn't always a good indication that a game will run well on Deck.
However a multiplayer beta has given us our first look at it actually running on the deck, and it's able to hit 90fps on the OLED deck at medium settings.
Elden Ring Nightreign Steam Deck Impressions – Recommended Settings | RPG Site
Our Elden Ring Nightreign Steam Deck performance review goes over recommended settings, online multiplayer support, ROG Ally comparisons, and more.
Check the article for more details, but here's the key part:
Whenever a game has some form of anti-cheat included or is online-focused, I worry whether it will run on Steam Deck or fully support the online modes. Not only does Elden Ring Nightreign boot up fine, but it also plays well even in multiplayer sessions. Before getting to recommended settings, I set the game to the low preset to see how much performance I could get out of it at 720p. In the four hours I've spent on Steam Deck with it in multiplayer and a bit more playing solo, the former is definitely more demanding. I had a few instances where it dropped to the mid 20s in very particle-heavy moments, but it otherwise held a frame rate of above 30fps very well.
The author also mentions setting everything as low as it could go, but that they were unable to hit 60fps.
Doom the Dark Ages will not run well on steam deck at release
With SteamOS getting a quick new update, we decided to check out DOOM: The Dark Ages on the Steam Deck and see just how well it is running.
The TL;DR: The game won't launch on current steamOS, but preview build 3.7.6 fixes the launch issue.
Unfortunately the game is unable to maintain decent frame rates even with severe reductions in graphical settings.
The drastic decrease in performance compared to Doom 2016/Doom Eternal is due to the game using mandatory ray tracing for lighting.
It's possible that we'll see some patches or mods that improve performance, but at launch it will not be a good deck experience.
EDIT: Not sure why Lemmy is embedding that youtube video, there's an actual article about the performance, and there's a different video on how the Steam Deck itself actually performs with the game.
Stellar Blade's Twitter Account Posts Video Of The Game Running on Steam Deck
Stellar Blade's official Twitter/X account posted a video earlier today showcasing the game being played on a Steam Deck.
The game is supposed to come out on PC sometime in June.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Got Steam Deck Verified, But It Still Has Issues
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle got updated to Steam Deck Verified, but it still has some issues that stop it from being a great experience.
From reading about the performance, sounds like it probably should have been rated "playable" instead of verified.
That said, this is pretty cool because this was one of those games that was absolutely unplayable on deck at release.
This is also encouraging for our chances of having Doom Dark Ages be playable since I think they're using the same engine. Doom games are usually optimized really well, so I'm hoping it will run better than this.
Infinity Nikki on Steam works on Steam Deck LCD, but not OLED Deck or Desktop Linux
Infinity Nikki has now launched on Steam to suck away more of your time. It works on Steam Deck with Proton but the anti-cheat is blocking it working on Desktop Linux.
The game has ACE anti-cheat that blocks it from running on desktop. They've made an exception for steam deck to let the game run, but it seems like it only works with the LCD deck. A very odd situation
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered revealed, it's out now and Steam Deck Verified
Bethesda Softworks today officially revealed and launched The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, after days of leaks. And from what they've revealed, I'm very excited to give it a go. It's even Steam Deck Verified right from the get-go.
It is a UE5 game, so don't expect it to run great. But it's verified and the minimum specs requirements are in line with other high end titles that run acceptably on the deck.
Edit: performance first impressions from SteamDeckHQ. Sounds like it runs and a pretty consistent 30fps, with some small dips outside near large groups of people. Reviewer was using XESS upscaling on performance.

Completely ridiculous online 1v1 shooter STRAFTAT added a Linux version
STRAFTAT originally launched in October 2024, and just recently the developer added a Linux version. It's a completely ridiculous competitive 1v1 online shooter with quick rounds and lots of weapons.
I've been playing this through proton for awhile now, and it's a lot of fun. 1v1 death matches are really intense, and the game has a huge variety of maps and weapons.
The monetization is great too, completely free with an optional $5 dlc that adds more maps and hats.
FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH gets a smaller download (about 55GB smaller) on Steam Deck
Square Enix have updated FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH and they've managed to cut down the download size for the Steam Deck and by quite a bit too.
Games can have different assets downloads for desktop vs Deck, you don't need 4k textures and videos for Deck games.
For FF7 Rebirth, the desktop download is 144GB but the Deck download is a significantly reduced 88GB.

Avowed Is Playable on Steam Deck, But Shows Some Warning Signs - First Impressions - Steam Deck HQ
Avowed has just released on PC, and while it is a damn good time so far, it's a little bit of a mixed bag on the Steam Deck. Here are our first impressions so far.
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition gets updated, needs a fix on Steam Deck
Rockstar Games decided to update the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition which includes Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto III but it seems you'll need this quick fix to run it now on Steam Deck.
Various players have been reporting a "Fatal error" being encountered when trying to play any of them. However, there's two workarounds I know of to get around it. What's interesting is that this might be specific to the Steam Deck OLED, as it's to do with HDR not working. So you can try this launch option first:
DXVK_HDR=0 %command%
To do this. Go into the game in your Steam Library, over to the little cog icon on the right for the Properties, and put that in the Launch Options box.
Another potential workaround is to force DirectX 12 for it:
%command% -dx12
Space Marine 2 fixes online for Steam Deck but may need launch option on desktop Linux
Space Marine 2 recently broke online play on Linux / Steam Deck, but the latest update should solve it. Although it seems desktop Linux users will need a launch option.
Silent Hill 2 Hides FSR 3 and XeSS on Steam Deck Possibly Due to RAM Usage - Steam Deck HQ
It looks like Silent Hill 2 is hiding FSR 3 and XeSS on the Steam Deck, and it could be due to RAM usage.
You can re-enable these options by using the SteamDeck=0 %command%
launch option, but this might cause the deck to crash if it runs out of RAM/VRAM.
This crash shouldn't happen if you're on SteamOS Beta (version 3.6 or newer) because it uses ZRAM, or if you've increased your swap file size. However memory having to be moved between ZRAM/swap and RAM/VRAM does cause reduced performance too, so more testing will be needed to see if it's better to use FSR3/XeSS this way or not.
