Looking for a privacy oriented fitness tracker

Hi other privacy people :)

I am currently looking for a fitness tracker that at least doesn't need a proprietary app to get the data out of it. Haven't really found any recent articles that look into that aspect of fitness trackers, any advice?

I know about the bangle.js but wanted to know if there is more. Also, if you have this device and use it to track your running, I would be happy to read your review!

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Solution for me was to adjust the settings of opentracks. Before it recorded only every 10 metres. Additionally I ordered a chest strap for my heart rate. Brand is Polar, they seem to be good about not needing their own app to get your data.

How can I verify the ownership of an IP-address? - 26.26.26.x

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/14131393

Recently discovered the following two addresses in my DNS-filter, 26.26.26.1 and 26.26.26.2. How can I confirm that these belong to? These are both public-ip addresses but seems to be owned by the US Military?

If I look at https://www.abuseipdb.com/check/26.26.26.2, it says it belongs to:

  • ISP: DoD Network Information Center
  • Type: Military
  • Country: US.

What does this mean? As far as I've researched, its got something to do with Socks protocol? This Github repo I found seems to be using it too, but why is it used? If anyone knows, id very much appreciate your help.

edit1: formatting

edit2: Found an additional GH Repo that use the same IP addresses for something called V2RayVPNService: https://github.com/2dust/v2rayNG/blob/master/V2rayNG/app/src/main/kotlin/com/v2ray/ang/service/V2RayVpnService.kt

(Android) Sandboxed Apps with own VPN and Firewall?

Hi lemmy,

Iwant to use specific apps as privately as possible.

I'm aware of shelter and the work profile, and I was thinking of using Duolingo or Instagram with fake accounts through a VPN with a killswitch so that it can't associate my data and usage with me.

Is that in any way possible? Or am I missing something?

I'm running Graphene OS on a Pixel 8 Pro

EDIT: Solved, you can do that with user profiles in Graphene

Grapheneos: VLC using thumbnails of videos from the "main" user profile for audio tracks on another user profile

Trying my luck here since I really couldn't get an answer on the grapheneos forum. I see thumbnails from videos not available to the currently used profile for the audio tracks that are playing, only on the notification popup though. Not sure if this is a bug or whatnot but I'm kinda concerned if this indicates that data is being leaked between profiles. I already checked the metadata/tags for the audio tracks and confirmed that they are correct also storage scopes are enabled. Should I be concerned? Any help will be appreciated.

Edit for some more information: vlc (permissions removed and not setup) is installed on the default "main" profile, where the video files are at, since I use it to install updates downstream to other profiles where vlc is also installed.

Edit #2: whatever bug was causing this seems to be taken care of after the latest update.
