Cancer Survivor: 'I did a run because Jeremy Clarkson saved my life'
Andrew Hood says he was running run to pay forward the favour the TV presenter did for him.

Found this article on BBC News featuring a man named Andrew Hood. He credits Clarkson, Hammond and May for inspiring him to get checked for testicular cancer. It’s worth noting that he got treated and his cancer is in remission. Cheers to that good news! 👏
“Without [Jeremy] Clarkson, without [Richard] Hammond, without [James] May, there is a good chance I would not be talking now."
Prince William to appear on “Clarkson's Farm” 🚜
A camera crew followed William as he visited the next generation of Duchy tenant farmers.

To be clear, the Prince of Wales will make an appearance on a future episode of “Clarkson’s Farm.” This article did not mention if he actually met Jeremy Clarkson himself at his farm, but he did meet Kaleb and Cheerful Charlie at a different location. If only he met Gerald as well… 😅
“Prince William was joined by stars of the show Kaleb Cooper and Charlie Ireland as he met young farmers in Somerset earlier.
“A camera crew from the Amazon Prime series followed the prince on his trip to Folly Farm, between Pensford and Bishop Sutton, where he was raising awareness of mental health care for farmers.”
'It didn't express the real horror': The true story of The Great Escape
In March 1944, 76 officers broke out of a German prisoner-of-war camp. In 1977, a key member of the escape team talked to the BBC about the mission, and the Hollywood film it inspired.

Given that The Grand Tour went to the actual WWII POW camp as featured in the Eurocrash special, I thought this article would be of interest to this subreddit. Never forget the lessons of history! Here’s a preview:
“Stalag Luft III was the Germans' attempt at an escape-proof camp, specifically for air force officers from the UK, Canada, Australia, Poland and other allied countries. It was built and run by the Luftwaffe as a secure place to hold people they believed were escape risks. What they had not done, however, was consider the ramifications of trapping so many escape experts in one place.”

James May shares a few based comments (especially near the end!) with The Standard about cars and bicycles. Here’s the part that inspired the headline:
“I hate driving in London. I always have. I avoid it. It feels like a totally pointless activity. And it spoils cars for me. It makes them boring and annoying.
“Obviously I’ve spent a lot of time over the years writing about cars and making TV about them, and I love cars, but I do think in my bones they don’t really belong in towns.”

Clarkson, May and Hammond Grand Tour reunion confirmed
Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond will appear in a new Amazon Prime series entitled: The Not Very Grand Tour.

At least we are getting one last hurrah with these gentlemen! Whatever they end up producing from this project, don’t miss it. 😀
(I tried to look for the original press release online, but Amazon hasn’t posted that publicly yet.)
“Amazon confirmed in a press release that we can expect The Not Very Grand Tour to be released on Friday 18 April.”

UK tabloid Daily Star was the first outlet to break this story. For those wondering which show Clarkson will make an appearance, it’s “Car SOS,” which starts broadcasting on March 13 at 8 p.m. on National Geographic UK. Here’s what show host Tim Shaw said about him:
“We spent about half-an-hour with Jeremy and he was warm, friendly, and, of course, typically sarcastic and funny.
"He genuinely cared about the wellbeing of both the team and, most importantly, the car’s owner.”
(If anyone knows where Car SOS airs or streams in the US, feel free to share that information in the comments.)
James May: Series about historical myths important amid rise of misinformation

For those of you in the UK, don’t miss his upcoming show, “James May’s Great Explorers,” on Channel 5 later this month! The article ended with another based quote from him:
“The worst thing that can happen to humanity is that we stop asking questions.
“Given everything that is going on now in British and global politics, the wars that are going on and the misinformation that is being put around and everybody having an opinion and a voice it is more important than ever that we all keep asking the questions.”
James May shares his thoughts about alcohol 🥃

Not surprising that he consumes alcohol in measurable amounts (he makes his own gin after all), but at least he drinks in a responsible manner. Here are the thoughts he shared with Daily Star:
“It’s fairly unusual for me to go an evening without a drink. I have a very strict six o’clock rule, though sometimes I’m watching the clock at half-five. Of an evening, I will often have a gin and tonic, some wine and a few beers in the pub.”
James added: “I don’t think it’s harmful. I think it’s good. I recommend it because even though it’s a cliché to say it’s a social lubricant, it’s true. Drinking makes it easier for shy people to have sex, which means more children
Jeremy Clarkson reacts to BBC’s decision to scrap iconic Top Gear cars

Not sure what exactly the BBC was thinking when it scrapped some cars from the car show we all love, but Jeremy Clarkson didn’t like that decision either. Here’s what he told The Sun in the attached article:
“I’m sad that many have been destroyed. I guess the problem is some people see cars as just a ton-and-a-half of glass, plastic, metal and rubber.
“But to petrolheads, they’re more than that. That’s especially true of cars we used on Top Gear”.
(For the people who despise The Sun, the scrapped cars include Clarkson’s Fiat Panda stretch limo, a Mini Cooper that appeared in the 2006 Winter Olympics special, James May’s caravan airship, and a double-decker

However, someone took some time to sabotage them, thus keeping the spirit of Top Gear (and by extension, The Grand Tour) alive.
(For those wondering about the location, it’s the A4069 Black Mountain Pass road in Wales according to the Sky News article.)

Jeremy Clarkson goes to his pub and reviews the Ferrari 296 GTS for The Sunday Times along the way. Here’s one part from there that stood out for me:
“If you buy one of these cars, set aside at least a week to work out what everything does, and bear in mind that, because so many of the controls are on the steering wheel, they move about, so are never where you left them.”
(No paywall encountered in this link, but if you hit one, what happens beyond that is up to you alone.)
James May on Masculinity, Top Gear, and enjoying “dull” hobbies
The original was posted on /r/thegrandtour by /u/FlipStig1 on 2024-10-20 06:49:17+00:00.
The Telegraph recently conducted a comprehensive interview with James May, who has a new TV show coming out soon! Look for “James May and The Dull Men’s Club” on Quest TV in the UK (no idea when it will ever air in the US and the rest of the world). He said many things, but this quote stood out to me the most:
“It’s a bit farty to say this, but what used to be considered the attributes of basic manliness are being mocked. The idea of being thorough, or being able to make things or use tools: it’s all considered a bit dad, a bit dull. So in the show we decided to headbutt it by being interesting about being dull while acknowledging that everyone thinks the thin

Andy Wilman Shares Details on Working With Jeremy Clarkson
'Happy Valley' producer Nicola Shindler and 'Clarkson's Farm' producer Andy Wilman were in conversation at the Royal Television Society conference.

Executive producer Andy Wilman shares some details on how he made the show with Jeremy Clarkson in this article from Variety. Here’s a quote from him about Clarkson’s work style that stood out to me:
“If I send him a cut of the film and say ’10 minutes has to come off of that’ [he’ll cut it],” Wilman said. “If I send it to [The Grand Tour co-star] James May he wants to put 10 more in.”
Executive Producer Andy Wilman Reflects on Ending The Grand Tour
As Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May drive off into the sunset, the showrunner behind their success, Andy Wilman, reflects on the trio's affectionate chemistry.

Radio Times conducted an interview with Mr. Wilman. The showrunner reflected on the trio’s chemistry and why the show ended the way it did. He says many other things as well, but this is the part that stood out to me:
“I think the most important reason, certainly for me, was that I know we're past our peak, but we're still standing and we're still wanted.
“So, the natural thing then is to go – wouldn't it be amazing if we land the plane under our own terms rather than pilot it into a mountain with the viewers all going, 'Would you please just fk off?' So, I'm very pleased that we've brought it to an end on our own terms and I'm very pleased that we will

I’d rather see the show end with the gentlemen. However, Amazon wants to carry on with the show’s concept, so Clarkson gave them his advice on doing it properly:
“My advice to Amazon would be - and I’ve given this to them already - for heaven’s sake, do not get well known people who ‘like’ cars.
“Because when you do that show it has to be your life. No, you can’t open supermarkets. No, you can’t appear on another show. If you’re not actually filming, you’re thinking about what the next thing is that you’re going to film. It has to be all consuming.
“But there’s no point hiring, you know, somebody who ‘likes’ cars. Because that’s not enough. I would get three c

The Sunday Times columnist says day one at The Farmer’s Dog was awful, but once he relaxed he started to see the bright side

A reporter from The Sunday Times visited Jeremy Clarkson’s new pub, The Farmer’s Dog. This part of the article stood out to me:
“Wherever Clarkson moved, a vast wave of excitable humanity followed. Small boys quivering with excitement, their fathers too. Farmers thanking him for drawing attention to their cause. It’s striking the extent to which everybody seemed to feel like they knew him, like they were already friends. It must be quite emotionally draining, quite an overwhelming thing to be on the receiving end of. If I were him, I’d be back home in bed now. Or in tears. Clarkson isn’t, obviously.”
A ‘weepy’ farewell to Grand Tour promised as presenters part ways

Executive producer Andy Wilman shared a few thoughts on what to expect from the series finale. Here’s one of his quotes that stood out for me:
“Anybody who thinks they’re going to get Avengers Endgame is going to be disappointed because it is deliberately gentle, but their camaraderie is next level. You can see that they know it’s the last time they will do this together.”
(Note that although I’ve included the spoiler tag as a precaution for those who haven’t seen it yet, some of the details are apparent from the trailer that has already been posted on this channel in my view.)

How James May and Jeremy Clarkson became the unlikely faces of a cryptocurrency scam
Deepfakes of the presenters are currently raging across the web – but they are not the first celebrities to be targeted by a worrying trend

This section of the Telegraph article with James May’s quote stood out to me. (Should be free to read, but it does quickly get behind a paywall.) Free advice: stay away from cryptocurrency!
Apart from being middle-aged white men, the examples above have a certain overlap in terms of reputation: all are thought of as blokeish and reliable, perhaps not the most glamorous celebrities out there, but the kind of people who would never scam you. The same is even more true of Martin Lewis, the founder of MoneySavingExpert.com.
