Fancy clothes

My youngest cousin is gonna have his first communion this coming August, and I'm likely to attend.

It's not a very formal event, but it's also not exactly something you're supposed to show up to in ripped shorts and a graphic tee. I've been thinking it through, and I think I don't really have appropriate clothes to take! Well, I do have jeans, some reasonable shoes, and a dress shirt - maybe that's enough - but I thought that this could be a good opportunity to get some "fancier" clothes, in relative terms. Nothing actually fancy like a suit, but just something a bit smarter that I could take to interviews, for example.

I thought that a polo shirt might be good. It's not formal, but it's definitely a step up from my usual Hard Rock Cafe shirts. Also, it's casual enough that it wouldn't really be weird to wear out and about, I hope.

Really, I wanted pants. I did have a list, at some point, of what pants I wanted to buy, but I really think I misjudged things, at the time. Now, as I'm looking, there's other, better options out there. I have my jeans settled, but maybe I should buy some chinos or something.

Ah, I don't know. I'll think about it some more, I do still have some time, but I might have to convince my little brother to go with me do some clothes shopping at some point in the next couple of weeks.

  • I, personally, cannot bear to wear clothes with things on them, at most like a pattern of funny cows on the socks. I nearly always have non-matching socks on my feet, when not barefoot. I only have shirts and jackets with nothing on them, except for one that I HATE. my pants were always just jeans, and short for when it got hot. or also pajama/trainers for comfy. but recently I have expanded into pants with fabric.

    So smooth.

The way I see it, I dont care about the judgement of other people. and I am living well. If i cared i may be living even better, or just more stressed. so i show up to my own graduation in jeans, why should i show up to a wedding in something else?

Oh dang, no graphic tees?! Hey, to each their own, I do suppose.

I only recently got into wearing jeans, being a chronic and lifetime sweats-wearer until 23 years of age. Since then, though, I've worn pretty much exclusively jeans, and now shorts for the summer since it's pretty hot.

I'll say: switching to jeans is something I don't regret at all, though I do wish I would've thought ahead a little and also bought some clothes that do a little better in the hotter weather, because I don't really like my shorts, mostly.

See, I get this, and to a great degree I do agree and relate. However, I think there's people; and then there's people. My family knows me, so I know they would never take offense or even bat an eye at me showing up in shorts and beat-up sneakers to a formal event or something - this to say that it's not even a matter of being judged at all - but I want to show that I care about the event more than I care about any other thing. I want to show that I made an effort to look extra-nice for this event, because I love my family! My little cousin and my aunt, in the particular case of the event I'll be going to. It's like saying "hey, I care about you" in clothian (the language of clothes).

We don't really do graduations here, I don't think. Of course, we graduate, but it's certainly not a formal event in any conceivable way, it's moreso just... When you finish school. I've seen Americans wearing fancy gowns at their university graduations, but is that also common at high-school graduations?

Regardless, the last - and only - wedding I've ever been to, I attended in jeans. At the time, jeans was as fancy a pant as I had.
