What's the IPA for this letter? Is this /q/?
According to wikipedia it's "ʕ"
Oh ok, cool, don't know why I thought the glottal stop in Arabic was always an alef then. This should be roughly the same sound as a brit saying bottle then.
You're right that the glottal stop is hamzah (often on top of alef). The symbol for hamzah in IPA is "ʔ" Ayn is the other way. They're both very throaty, but ayn is not a full stop.
