Camel's Hump via Monroe Trail Loop, Waterbury, VT

Hard, 6.6 mi loop

2,661 ft elevation gain

Hiked 8/2/25

Flickr Album

One of the five 4k peaks in Vermont, this hike has great views of the surrounding area on a clear day. Moderate for the majority of the hike, some mild scrambling on bare rock is needed to get to the top. Taking the Alpine route down adds more scrambling, but also a look at crashed bomber from 1948.

Looking Northwest from the top of Camel's Hump. The Alpine route lies below and involves some bouldering once you get to the lower rocky section.

A tree is growing out of the wing section from the crashed B-24 Liberator, circa 1948.

Vertical shot of some Ghost Pipes growing in the underbrush.
