This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".
Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.
Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:
We all know them, we all love them: bonfires. I mean lamps. Eh, sites of grace. Sculptor's Idol! Whatever...
Which "bonfire" has the best integration into its respective game's lore and world building, though? Can't comment on Dark Souls too much since I haven't really played any of them, but I feel like the lamps in Bloodborne fit the game quite well. They serve as a guiding lamp in the darkness and bleakness that is the world of Bloodborne, shepherding hunters to the Hunter's Dream, to safety.
First time I recorded myself fighting a boss from start to finish. This is NG+ with the Two Dragons Sword after many, many tries failing miserably in phase 2, sometimes getting very close to beating her. It's by no means a clean fight and I did luck out in the end due to good attack RNG by her, but it still felt good to finally get this done
Edit: Throughout phase 2, I kept trying to use the special parry of Two Dragons Sword, but I was too scared of losing health unnecessarily and wanted to be done with the fight lol
Most people agree on the second half of DS1 being rushed and quite bad compared to the iconic status of the first half of the game. Did you find it as bad though? I've not played DS1 till the end myself, so I can't tell. From what I've heard and seen on YouTube as well as judging by From's self-assessment, the second half was a little rushed, thus leading to the drop in quality. Is that true?
I've finished Bloodborne and Sekiro multiple times, have finished Demon's Souls once, and we're on our second playthrough of Elden Ring. I have not really played any of the Dark Souls, however.
DS1 was actually the first one I've ever played after watching PewDiePie play the game (holy shit, this was ages ago). I didn't really get the game and I didn't know what a soulslike is yet, so I dropped the game quite quickly after killing the Taurus Demon.
Fast forward to a couple years ago, I bought the DS collection for PS4 and started a playthrough of DS1 and DS3 which I've both played a couple hours of but then dropped again because I preferred the other FS games.
I would really like to play DS2 sometime soon, however. I want to know if the game is really as bad as people make it out to be or if it's just hyperbole.
Edit: So turns out, you don't have to open all the Sanctums there are - just a couple mandatory ones. I managed to get another call with Arlecchino on the Grand Exhibition phone where he asks you if you're a murderer. You can answer whichever way you want and you'll get a box containing the key needed to open to the door to his hideout. Other phones might work too, so just check another phone that is not inaccessible.
Might be a long shot, but I'll make a post anyway. So after progressing through the story enough, you end up back at the beginning of the game at Krat Central Station. You then progress through this area until you come back to the Hotel and continue in Relic of Trismegistus area, thus locking yourself out of the area.
Now, to be able to get the final key needed to get access to the room where Arlecchino is held in the Arche Abbey, you apparently need to have found all the prior Trinity Keys and have opened all their respective Sanctums. One such Sanctum is next to the
Gave the demo another shot after a short on YT by Video Game Closet (awesome channel - definitely check them out) and honestly:I liked it quite a bit! The story seemed a little generic so far, but who plays soulslikes for their story anyways, right? I liked the idea of skill trees for the different weapon types, some changes to the combat added a nice freshness which I kinda miss in From's games, and yeaa kinda went two days straight thinking about buying the game, so I did. :D
